Now, let's pretend for a second that people actually wanted a sequel this early; what new game mechanics do they have in store for us this time around? Nothing much.
We have new settings, new characters, new weapons and the ability to use melee weapons. It sounds more like an update to Left 4 Dead than an actual sequel.
(And let us not forget, they're probably really busy making Episode 3!)
And the title! Left "4" Dead "2"? From now on it should be a rule: you can only have ONE single digit number in the title of your game!
(Unless that game is Half Life 2: Episode 3, that would be okay!)
But I didn't make this thread just so I could rant about Left 4 Dead 2 (I'm writing a book for that), I made it so I could see what others think about it. Do you think it's a good idea? Thoughts? Questions? Random fanboy rage? Say it all with a comment

GAME (REGARDLESS OF QUALITY) + SALES = SEQUEL
They're running a business after all for god's sake not some sort of holy and pure development organisation. This is how things have worked and will continue to work for years. They're not going to sacrifice millions of dollars to satisfy your petty desire to have your favourite franchise kept unique!

L4D2 shouldn't be rushed like this. Which is why that release date is highly unlikely to actually be the release date.

L4D was released last November.... it's been over 6 months. It's not exactly still "hot on the selves". Besides we didn't get a release date for this did we?
Hurrah for L4D 2 I say! People that are fretting need to calm down a little bit, it's not like it's coming out tomorrow after all.
I certainly wouldn't sniff at Valve offering us more of a good thing. In the meantime, I suppose you can either wail fruitlessly over the lack of Episode 3, or enjoy the L4D2 trailer, which is cool.

I think they should be working their fucking asses off on episode three right now but apparently they think people are already foaming out the mouth for a sequal to a game that didn't come out all that long ago. As for episode three, I love valve games but sometimes, I hate valve with a passion. This is what's probably going to happen. Valve will work on L4D2, L4D2 will be released, maybe a trailor or some good screenshots from episode 3 will be released just to piss you off, and if they don't start developing some other game that isn't episode 3 they will start developing episode three. Episode three will be released in the distant year of lets say 2012, and it will be fan-fucking-tastic. It will probably be an awesome ending to the series and it will be the new game to compare all games too. And it will be 4 hours long. The end.

One thing that is quite important is the fact that they have sold over 2.5 million copies of l4D, and that's not counting the steam sales. So I'm guessing we are talking quite alot of million copies here. So of course, Valve might want to use the hype to sell even more.
As for new stuff in the sequel:
Axe, baseball bat, fryingpan and other stuff like that.
Flaming bullets.
New weaponds (or atleast new skins lol)
And most importantly: Ai director 2.0

I agree. It's way too early for a Left 4 Dead 2. I think a large DLC would have been better. I want Episode 3!
When I saw the trailer for L4D2, I thought "Oh, a Left 4 Dead rip-off." but nope, it's a real Vale made sequel for a game that isn't even a year old yet. What ever happened to "Once we're done w/ L4D, we'll devote our time to HL2:E3?" And really, they're in New Orleans during Mardi Gras; just throw the infected a few beads and a beer and your problem is solved!
