i am way too trigger-happy to not end up scowering every room for ammo, so usually i take the shotgun, but i don't set it in stone, i play differently every time.

I actually prefer the M16 above all else. I take the Uzi until I get it. I'll admit that it eats ammo like a candy but I once blinded by a boomer and took out the horde coming after me by simply pointing in the direction they were coming from and holding down the fire button.

@Undeadpope: actually the best way to get around the ammo inefficiency of any machinegun is only use it against hordes and special infected. Otherwise I'd just use pistols. the damage is low but after awhile you get a knack for headshots and hey infinite ammo is infinite ammo.

and shotgun is far far better vs tank and witch.
There is "better" and there is more efficient, uzi has longer range and thus you can take a more defensive stance with some long distance kiting, and empty an entire clip into the tanks back while it stomps on a incaped ally has only slighty less than the few shots of a shotgun.

If you ask me Shotgun is more ammo efficiency,it does its job and it does it well but the Uzi on the other hand lacks efficiency is has a "Kick Ass" mode,as in you can totally forget about how much ammo it takes to get some major damage to a tank or take alot out of the swarms numbers.

Disagree?(this is toward everyone) totally understandable, lets discuss in a polite manner.
its good to have one or two guys with uzis shooting a tank since it slows him a bit. but if the tank isnt currently focused on me... ill walk up behind him and start shotgunning him for huge damage.
if he is chasing me... the shotgun still does a ton of damage... but focus #1 is getting away from him.

if you put 4 guys with uzis vs a tank... my moneys on the tank almost everytime (different areas may give the edge to the survivors...) but 4 guys with shotguns vs the tank... thats alot closer.
but ideally you have a mix. i just prefer to be one of the guys with the shotgun. and its the uzis job to slow the tank. the shotguns job to kill it.

I use the pump shot gun through the entire campaign if I can, I find it to be the most satisfying weapon in the game... Seriously, I am a beast with that gun. I find that the Auto-shotty runs out of ammo far too fast and has a fairly long reload time (plus no *chika* after every shot). The Uzi and M4 are both too... poppy sounding, and I find the spread of the shotgun to be more efficient. That said, the Uzi sounds better than the M4. The hunting rifle has a nice thud to it, good capacity, and a great range, but a great limit on its crowd control abilities. That said, The Pump SG and the Hunting rifle are my two favorites. But the Pump shotgun wins overall.

In the beginning I always choose Uzi, but when we get to the more advanced weapons I always choose the Auto-Shotgun because I'm damn good at Witch Cr0wning.

I start with the shotgun and then move to the M16 when it comes up, I find I run out of ammo too quickly with the Uzi and the Auto Shotty and I've not got the patience for the Hunting Rifle

Pump Shotgun usually, but sometimes I pick the Uzi.

As for Tier 2 weapons I pick n' mix. On Versus it's usually the Auto-Shotty, on Expert Campaign it's usually the Hunting Rifle; and then sometimes I'll pick the M16 when I feel like a change.

I tend to use my pistols almost constantly when I play, and then just move over to the shotgun when something large and angry is in front of me. But I do consistently pick up the shotgun. The Auto-Shotgun is intense though, its like a "Doom-Broom" for sweeping hordes.

Pump shotgun for vs, Uzi for expert campaign. Pump is better for run and gun, up close and melee a lot, uzi is better at range (and charge shot bugging)

I'm good with both, so I pick based on whatever my teammates picked, unless situation call otherwise.

For example, two teammates got shotty, 1 guy on uzi, I'm pickin uzi. Gotta have two of each.

Diversity, it wins.

Shotgun. Mow 'em down with a bit of class is what I say, and there's just something... Vintage about the shotgun.

Pump-shotgun. Its good for close range. Most zombies need to get close to hurt you, but you can use the pistol if the enemy is too far away.
Its fast to reload and you can just reload one bullet at a time.
Uzi is already too similar to pistol and it doesn't feel as good for when your getting swarmed.

I tend to go for the shotty. There's less ammo in it, but it's sure to put a zombie down in one shot without having second thought about it getting back up, which I find happens with the Uzi, and therefore end up wasting bullets making sure it's dead.

It depends on what my teammates take. If they all go shottie, I'll take the uzi to fill the gap.

The shotgun is the traditional anti-zombie weapon of choice (followed closely by the chainsaw, baseball bat and harpoon).

Did Ash from Evil Dead use an Uzi? Did Shaun from Shaun of the Dead use an Uzi? Did Cortez from Timesplitters use an Uzi (in the zombie levels)?

For those of you who aren't keeping up, no, they didn't.
Shaun used a cricket bat and a winchester rifle. :p
