My dad got me that game as a gift one day, then I saw it was a JRPG. I ended up playing it and it was actually pretty fun. Personally, I liked it better than Final Fantasy, but I guess it's because the game has knights and dragons and I love that sort of thing. It also has no annoying teenage characters that makes me hate most things made by the Japanese. I still haven't finished the game though. I should probably get around to that.

Now that this thread's more alive than I expected, I will be happy to give some explanations:

The producer of the game was Sony Computer Entertainment, not Square

And yes, LoD was an awesome game, and Rose was intentionally meant to be an awkward character [If you notice, her healing Dragoon spell shoots out of her crotch and she fondles herself when transforming]
Oh, yeah, and the "Demon's Gate" spell was so unsubtle, she splits her legs open as a beam of light opens a portal in between them.

It was not, however, released by Square Enix-- I'm not even sure Squaresoft and Enix had merged at the time it was made, but LoD was released 3-4 years after FF7.
It was released about the same time as FF8.

You could really tell the translation was rushed, though, as it got steadily less and less intelligible the further you progressed in the game. At one point, right as a side character you just beat the various humours from is trying to choke out a desperate final message, his oh-so-concerned teacher responds with a touching, "Shut up! Talking makes you die!". Now tell me that's not a message you can get behind.
I also noticed that on the world map, the town of Furni (start of Disc 3) was misspelt "Fanny". Big typo for a G rated game.

Lavitz ruled. Shame Albert was such a pathetic replacement.
I agree. But the way Albert says "Gust-a-wind-a-dance!" cracks me up.

you know i thought i played the game backwards and front, but you say the characters had secret moves that werent explained on how to activate them. would you mind sharing with me what these secret moves are, and how you go about activating it. just one legend of the dragoon fan tp another
Yeah, once you achieved a total of 80 successful combos, you perfected that combo, making it more powerful. If you do that with all but 1 of a character's moves, the secret super-mega-combo is unlocked. It's an UBER move, but is extremely hard to complete. Use with caution.

Personally, my favourite caharacter was Lloyd. Winglies intrigue me, as well as the fact that a dark Tragic Hero/Anti-Villain made him a perfect character.

I also liked Meru, for her childish nature, that really made me surprised when her true nature was revealed.

Rose was a good character as well.

Personally, though, I hated it when Dart replaced his fire Dragoon Spirit for the Divine Dragoon Spirit. I liked him before!

But best villain goes to the Virages. Damn awesome things.

Just a question: I think that the green blob thing from LoD made 2 appearances in the Diablo 3 gameplay trailer. They look exactly the same (minus colour, and the D3 one explodes into worm-things when you kill it). Anyone agree?

EDIT: And best NPC goes to Coolon. I mean, travelling on a floating Manta Ray? HELL YEAH!

This is my all time favorite game. I'm still wishing for a prequel so tha we can play through the Dragon Campaign. What always cracked me up was one of Haschel's attacks. It was called 3 different names all at once. It was listed as Fury of Styx, the battle name was Frenzy of Styx, and he called out Flurry of Styx when it was completed. Just make up your mind already!

I actually have a poster of the game.

I was also playing it not a couple months ago. I've yet to actually beat the game on my own, but I have beaten the final boss for my dad.

Man that game was great, had awesome graphics for it's time, and really neat and involving battle system, and a generally interesting and overall good story with characters that I could care about. Man...if my JRPG to do list wasn't so long right now I'd be replaying it *goes and downloads rom*...just for future purposes :)

Aah...Sweet,sweet memories...The intrigue of Lloyd, the hilarity of Frugel, the world's most innovative combat system to ever be implemented in a video game...Oh,and the sheer epicness of riding a flying manta ray is impossible to ignore. The game's plot is deep, streching beyond the beginning of disk one, which is slowly explained throughout the game (although, disc 3 is a bit of a "Lore Dump"). If you want an addictive classic game, you've found it. Now... WHY IN THE NAME OF SOA ISN'T THIS GAME ON THE PSN STORE!?!? I'd gladly pay $70.00 CDN for that game! (Remembers mastering Gust of Wind Dance and Cat's Cradle...Only to fail miserably on Rose Storm and Perky Step)

Yeah I remember it, I actually still have it somewhere in my basement along with my PS1. I remember it was so long it needed 4 discs.

I still bust out with a battle cry from this game every now and then. I'm particularly fond of Rose's "Die, more and more, Hard Blade!"

Gusta wind Dance is pretty awesome too.

Good game, too bad they didn't do more of these, or remake it.

... or even put it in the PSN PSone classics store. :/

I played it but never managed to finish it. There was always one boss that frustrated me to the point of playing it for a couple weeks. Especially ones that were diffcult to get to and nearly drained me of all my supplies.

It was a great game though and I should proably dig it back up and try and finish it.

I love Legend of Dragoon, it's one of the finest RPGs ever made in my opinion, hell, I should pop it in sometime and finish it.

I had the demo of it for PS1. Don't remember much other than beating it a few times.
I had the demo too, I loved it. I could never find the game itself in the shops though.

It was fun. I doubt I'd play it again, but wasn't bad. I still remember the difficulty I had trying to do special moves for Albert. He's so fast it's like "::tap tap tap:: Stab!" I couldn't get past the first hit! >.<
