Wind Waker was possibly one of my favorite games of all time, and the cell-shading brought a unique kind of life and charm to an already great game.

It wasn't just the cel-shading, the art and visual approach to the game gave it a new and interesting experience when playing it, and I greatly enjoyed it.

I would have preferred the normal style for that time like they used in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, perhaps upgraded for the gamecube.

K i admit..im a zelda fanboy..however the cellshading did take a while to get used to. But once you did, you can't overlook the fact that windwaker was one of the best zelda games made. Even if it wasn't exactly what fans of the series were expecting. they should do it again. except a more mature link. Get all artsy with it. Have the baddies bleed Ink and color like the sf4 opening credits. Oh and release it on the gamecube...

I never liked it, it never looked that great and made the game look like it was for kids. Zelda was never an "adult" game but it never looked like it was for kids, either.

This morning my good friend and I got into a debate about Wind Waker. I said that the game was good but the graphics killed it, he argued that the cel shade was good and added to the experience. So to end this debate: Was Wind Waker's cel shading good or bad? Please also state your reasoning for your opinion.
you'll never end the debate, because those are opinions, and it's almost impossible to change someone's opinion if it's diametrically opposed to your own.

That being said, I thought the game was charming. I thought the graphics were some of the better looking stuff on the gamecube. You did occasionally have to close one eye, but the game truly delivered in the looks department.

We all laughed at it when we saw the first stills. Still images do not do Wind Waker Justice at all. If you play the game, you will come to appreciate what they did right. If you stick to the initial laughter that everyone thought when they first saw it, you're missing some of the most emotive characters, and probably the freshest story and funnest game nintendo has put out in ages (at that time, I haven't played the Wii that much, so I can't debate past the gamecube.)

I wouldn't go as far to say it "Killed" the game. WW was a fun game, but I would have liked it more if it wasn't cell shaded. Im not one of those people who is like "REALITY IS BROWN AND THEREFOR ALL GAMES MUST LOOK LIKE GEARS OF WAR" but I prefer more realistic environments and character models to cartoonish ones.

It worked on so many levels.
It kept the young link young and opened up possibilities for there to be two different kinds of Zelda games.

I loved the unique graphics of that game - it just seemed to fit really well and was a nice change to the same old graphics and identical looking Link. It's not something you would do all of the time but for a change it was nice.

Loved the graphics. Had problems with Zelda being done with said graphics. But the graphics were gorgeous in itself.

Wind waker didn't have too much cell shading, certainly not that massive black outline bull crap that ALL cartoon based games have to have these days. It did happen to have a cell shade style of lighting, which is commendable. All in all it was good, Don't go thinking the game is bad or ugly because the word "cell shade" is used.

I totally love the Zelda series and WW was my favourite, right after Majora's Mask on the list. It's great the way they don't just churn out sequels, each of the 3D games seem to have their own style to them. I simply can't wait to see what they do next.
