I like it. I like the physics bringing me into the world, I like the simplicity, slightly varied gameplay, and the decent length.

I don't understand why people go like 'HL2 hasn't aged well' or 'HL2 has been surpassed by modern FPS titles'.

I mean, it's not like the FPS genre has evolved very much since then, has it?

Also, what the fuck is this?

Nope.
Maybe it was because everyone was saying it was jesus on a disc, but I found it to be a very mediocre game.
Well, what about the other question? :)
Uuuuh...
Dog. Cats always seem more finicky about things.

Halflife 2 is, I'm reasonably certain, at least so far, not to put too many commas to it, my absolute, favouritest, FPS experience, ever.

But seriously it is. There's not one thing I dislike about it -except- that fight scene in Nova Prospekt. By that one I mean the one with 4 entryways, 3 turrets, and about 6 minutes worth of heavily armed guards. I play the entire series on hard mode with the exception of that one fight scene.

I think I missed the bandwagon where people name threads with one subject and then have a totally irrelevant topic in the actual post. Maybe it's an Escapist thing.
There's no bandwagon, so you never missed such a thing.

And incase you jumped on the bandwagon of not reading OP's entire post before making your own: "Well if noone posts, there'll be noone who sees this poll, so, for discussion value.."

I think the unspoken phrase in there is "for a console".

It's a pain to scroll through a laundry list of weapons in combat. Great on the PC where you have tons of buttons or a mouse wheel to make it quick and easy, but it's not well-suited for a console controller. I know some folks complain about the vehicle controls, which I thought were perfectly fine on the PC... wonder if the console controls were a bit wonky.

I consider the complaints that it's graphically out of date just standard posturing. They say that about just about every game that's released today. Every game engine has things it does well and things it does... not so well. The Source engine is no exception. At the time it was released, there was no game engine that did facial expressions as well... but both the UT2k4 and Doom 3 engines handled world textures better. HL2 had a slightly gamey quality about it.

From what I've experienced, it's a decent enough game with a terrible protagonist that gets way more love than he deserves. Judged solely on the game itself, I'd maybe give it a passing grade as solid but unexceptional in most aspects. It's really the extremely vocal cult that has arisen around the game and, perhaps more particularly, Gordon Freeman that boots it down firmly into the "don't like" category.

Half-life 2 to me is addicting as any RPGs. I'm also one of those guys who dislikes shooters, why? Because I like singleplayer, so singleplayer should be fun and of decent length. Half-life isn't too bad in length but then again I can go through that game quickly since I've done it a million times. The gravity gun makes it fun too but I love the enviroments and the freaking story and it just flows through so easily. Also a domestic dog, because of "A boy and his dog" ;)

I've long enjoyed tweaking the nose of HL fanboys. The easiest way to do so is point out that the amazing story of the first game... is basically just a retelling of Doom's story. Dimennsional rift opens, monsters come through, you the lone silent hero must just through and seal the rift... then end the threat by shooting a giant monster in the brain with a rocket launcher while enemies teleport in around you.

Gordon Freeman, the Cult Of The Crowbar, and so much other stuff. It's just deifying FPS cliches. Wow, smashing boxes with a melee weapon scores you items... that's Halo level of innovation that is.

Sure, I'm for Half-Life 2. It looked fun when I first saw it, so why not?

As for the question...I say dog. Why?

...no reason.

Yea, I enjoy the game. I don't think it's the savior of the gaming culture as we know it, but yea, it's good.

As for the pet thing? I would prefer a dog. When was the last time you saw a domesticated house cat rip someone's throat out?

I didn't like Half Life 2.

And I want an Ocelot as my companion. It's a kind-of cat, right?

I tried very hard to like Half Life 2, but gave up around the same time it expected me to shift a construction sites worth of bricks onto the end of a giant plank so I could jump to a ledge that I should have been able to simply climb up.

Yes, you made a physics engine. Whoopdy-skip. *turns off console*

As for the second question - I've always been more of a cat person.

I absolutely love HL2, I've played through it and the episodes about 6 times each.

I just love the atmosphere, the look of it, the shooting, the story, the set-pieces, the sound, the music, the physics, DOG, the epicness... love it.

Yes, it was an excellent game and a lot of the backlash it gets on this forum comes from contrarian dicks.

Does the animal question mean as opposed to or or as opposed one another?

If it's the former: I prefer having the ordinary sidekick.

If it's the latter: The dog, since dogs have more mass and are better at killing things.

Sure, I liked Half-Life 2. It was pretty good, though not the Jesus game everyone says it is.

As per the second question, I would prefer a dog. Dogs are loyal, obedient, and will befriend you.

Cats are too smart for their own good. Not to mention a dog bite wrecks more than a cat, unless it's a mountain lion or something.

Other than the story that seems interesting, I really don't care for it.It's not bad but defiantly not my favorite .I'm usually more annoyed at the people who treat it like a godsend than the actual game itself.

As for t an animal compaion

I recently played Half-Life 2 for the first time (I read about the first one and didn't play it because it isn't for mac) and I loved it, what I love about it is the world it created. No other FPS has created such a realistic world, it starts with a very harsh dystopia that is easy to believe and then the shit just hits the fan from there, but I never really said "okay, this is a little absurd" because it knew the world it was in and it committed.
