I'm currently downloading HL2 and all its episodes from Steam, because they were massive bargains and I decided I didn't want to just dismiss them after playing the first half of HL2 anymore.

I just finished HL2: Lost Coast, which came as a free extra. It was alright, not that great - graphics were amazing for a game its age, atmosphere was great, the one piece of music that played was quite good (if unmemorable)... but when it came to combat, it felt like modern warfare except with really old-school mechanics. So laden with scripting I'm surprised it wasn't crushed under its own weight, the exact same enemies with maybe slightly different guns just dropping down from the sky and standing there to get shot (in other words, poor enemy AI+variety) and EXTREMELY linear level design. It wasn't helped by the fact that I'm still having to get used to how unintuitive the keyboard is for this sort of game.

HOWEVER, I know that Lost Coast is only a tech demo and not necessarily representative of the actual game. So I will wait before passing judgement.

Yes, I like Half-Life 2.

As for the topic question, I would choose the one that's faster. I prefer speed over almost anything else.

Halflife 2 is, I'm reasonably certain, at least so far, not to put too many commas to it, my absolute, favouritest, FPS experience, ever.

But seriously it is. There's not one thing I dislike about it -except- that fight scene in Nova Prospekt. By that one I mean the one with 4 entryways, 3 turrets, and about 6 minutes worth of heavily armed guards. I play the entire series on hard mode with the exception of that one fight scene.
I actually finished that level surprisingly easily.

All I did was take the turrets out of the... err... closets, turn them around so that they were faced outside, and put them back in. Then I got into the remaining middle closet myself, facing outside, with the three turrets flanking me from both sides.

The Combines couldn't knock my turrets over with their grenades (the closet was tight), and my turrets and I were vulnerable only from the front, meaning that the Combines had to get into our line of sight to even attack. I only had to run out once in a while when they threw a grenade, and plopped back right in after it exploded.

<color=maroon>It was a massacre. :)

No, not really. I didn't like it. I just found it boring and repetitive.
And, I'm very sensitive to motion blur in videogames and I got so sick when playing Half Life 2 that I just couldn't play anymore

I thought it was a good game, but it was kind of hard for me to get in to. To be honest I preferred the episodes. They were less story heavy (i.e. there was less "Gordon Freeman! What are you doing here?") and it was nice to have a partner throughout.

I'd want a cat.

And incase you jumped on the bandwagon of not reading OP's entire post before making your own: "Well if noone posts, there'll be noone who sees this poll, so, for discussion value.."
That was my problem, thanks.

A great game! I think it's the mix of fast fist person combat and some clever physics puzzles. All good, all the time!

I think it's much better than most of the boring fps games like CoD that's pretty much terrorists/russians/non-americans over there! Kill them! Why? Because I say so!

I still kind of like it, but it has certainly been topped and hasn't really aged as well as people seem to think.

Good, now maybe we can move past the legion of people who think they're edgy for not liking Half Life 2.

love HL2

also I'd totally want a cat sidekick, humanoid or otherwise... that way whenever I kill a boss of some sort I get to listen to my sidekick purr to high heaven!!!

I don't really like it. It feels cold and clinical, like all Valve games.

I think he made a good assumption, because most people on this site seem to love it. In the same way, I think it would be a fair assumption to say that most people on here despise Call Of Duty.

Yes, I like Half-Life 2. I won't say it's the second coming on disc, but I really enjoyed all my playthroughs. Good story, good cast, good enemies, good combat, good weapons. All-round good game. Not perfect, but very enjoyable.

Neither dog not cat. I thoroughly detest any videogame pet animals, with the exception of Agro.

I do. I have more fun with the PC version of Half Life though thanks to the crap load of moads i have installed, ranging from changing the smg and combine rifle to an m14 and m16, changing the combine to ACU camo soldiers and MP's, to raptors replacing the fast zombies.

Disliked it.

Got to the point where you're hover-boating down the storm sewer runoff channel in a boat towards the lake and suddenly got tired of being on a rail. Unfortunately, you can't jump the fence or get onto the overpass. As soon as I realized I was trapped I did the only thing I could to escape - I turned it off.

Never went back.

I don't only like Half-Life 2, it's my favortie game of all time, I could now start a really long explanation about why I think that hl2 is the best game ever made but I won't do that.

I'd choose a dog. I'm not sure why but dogs always seemed more likeable to me.

I like Half-Life 2, but I certainly don't love it. To be honest, my biggest impressions of it are that Lamarr is adorable and Gordon Freeman looks really good in glasses. That's it. I really wanted to love it, and I tried to, but...there isn't even a word for it. Not dull, or boring, or bland, just something missing. That being said, I still follow news about the franchise whenever it crops up as though it were one of my favourite games, and I'm one of the people waiting for the mythical Episode 3. I think I'm a lot more interested in reading about the game than what I am actually playing it.

The first one was a lot more fun than the sequel, too, I thought.

For the second question: A cat. A sidekick dog -- especially if it were one that talked, good God -- would be one of the most annoying things I'd ever encounter, ever. ...I hate Scooby-Doo.

EDIT:

I think that was the word I was searching for, actually. Clinical. In fact, that's perfect. It was all very emotionless and detached. Something like that works for Portal, but not Half-Life.

I wouldn't say its my favourite game, but I like HL2 enough to be an admin on a HL2 Co-op server on gmod. The story is silly though.

And a dog for a sidekick because Dogs > cats.
