I'm currently downloading HL2 and all its episodes from Steam, because they were massive bargains and I decided I didn't want to just dismiss them after playing the first half of HL2 anymore.
I just finished HL2: Lost Coast, which came as a free extra. It was alright, not that great - graphics were amazing for a game its age, atmosphere was great, the one piece of music that played was quite good (if unmemorable)... but when it came to combat, it felt like modern warfare except with really old-school mechanics. So laden with scripting I'm surprised it wasn't crushed under its own weight, the exact same enemies with maybe slightly different guns just dropping down from the sky and standing there to get shot (in other words, poor enemy AI+variety) and EXTREMELY linear level design. It wasn't helped by the fact that I'm still having to get used to how unintuitive the keyboard is for this sort of game.
HOWEVER, I know that Lost Coast is only a tech demo and not necessarily representative of the actual game. So I will wait before passing judgement.
