Part 3: In which a confusing betrayal occurs
Our empire thusfar.
Not exactly the most impressive of domains, I know, but we're working on it.
This army is pretty badly beaten after that last fight, so they're going to head back to Hamburg to recover before we press further west or south.
The prince definitely seems to be coming into his own as a commander. He's going to make a very good leader for our armies, and more than likely, a very good king as well.
Also, Stettin has reached a population of 800 which allows us to upgrade the walls and turn it from a village into a town. Hurrah.
Anyway, that's it for this turn. Nothing terribly exciting right now.
NEXT TURN
Ah, the Holy Roman Empire wants to establish trade rights with us. They'll not be getting it, though, seeing as how we'll be at each other?s throats before very long.
And what do we have here? The Poles have sent some men into our land. It's only three units, so I very much doubt they're here to attack. More likely theyre scouts, but even so, I'm not terribly happy about Poland eyeing us like this.
Nothing else happening right now, though, so?
NEXT TURN
Ah, the pope has another request. Not a huge one, really, so I see no harm in obliging him.
Also, the army has made it back to Hamburg, so let''s get to rebuilding our forces. I imagine by the time we're done with this, those rebel settlements to the west will probably be taken, so the plan now is to head north to take Norway and then finally get to fighting the HRE.
THREE VERY UNINTERESTING TURNS LATER?
The pope has another job for us. Can't have those orthodox heathens doing something fun on Sunday or cooking their delicious bread, now, can we?
Oooooh? how embarrassing. Seeing as it was a rebel settlement I'm going to guess that the Muslim nations just didn't bother trying on this one.
Our army's all ready to go, so I think it about time to take Norway. Hopefully they won't give us much trouble and we can turn around to fight the HRE soon after.
Also, Arhus has reached the necessary population to upgrade to a minor city. In case you were wondering, the order is:
Village < Town < Large Town < Minor City < Large City < Huge City
NEXT TURN
Well, lookey here. We've got a heretic causing trouble in the Stettin region. What say we have a priest? er? ?redeem? him, shall we?
You know what they say; give a man a fire, and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he's warm for the rest of his life.
Nothing else really going on besides.
NEXT TURN
...
...
..............................................wat.
Charles, my best general, the prince of Denmark and son of the king, has betrayed us, and taken his army with him!
I have never seen this happen with a faction heir before. I mean? he was going to be the king! Why why WHY would he do that!?
This son of a ***** (Sorry, Danish queen) is going to pay.
Before he does, though, we have to build a new army, and do it quickly, because Charles took our only professional troops with him.
This is the state that Charles has left the royal family in. As you can see, he left his wife and 7-year-old daughter behind. The new prince is a royal by marriage, but he's the only other man of age in the entire tree besides the king himself, so he gets the position by virtue of being the only one qualified.
Well, there is one upside to this whole turn of events; Charles is stuck in Denmark and the only way he's getting out is through our land? or in a coffin.
NEXT TURN
I'll take this deal. We need more income to build a new army, and we need it quickly.
And the pope is nagging us again. I?m angry enough right now to tell him to piss off, but I'll do it anyway because being popular with the pope is a pretty good defence against catholic nations and we?re going to be focusing our efforts on Charles for the time being.
FIVE TURNS OF BUILDING, TRAINING, FUMING AND TRADING LATER
?Oh? er? well, the thing is, your holiness, we can't join your crusade right now because I have to go murder my son?
Perhaps we can join after we're done in Norway, though.
Speaking of which, I think it's about time we get going on that count.
Would only be appropriate.
NEXT TURN
We might be joining them soon.
NEXT TURN
Father vs Son, King vs Prince, Loyalist vs Rebel. Oh yeah. We're doing this.
Now that that traitorous snake has seen justice, there's still one more thing to take care of?
3 TURNS LATER
We should at least take one settlement in this part, I think.
NEXT TURN
Well, we definitely need to expand the royal family, his traits are acceptable and he's young enough to make into a good investment, so... let's take him.
Pretty onesided.
I'll sack the place; We're a little short on money at the moment.
And there we have it.
?
Okay, so in the end we didn't really accomplish much, but we did put down the king's ingrate son and secured our land.
Now we have a new choice to make. Do we join the crusade and make war with the Egyptians? Or do we ignore the pope and instead attack the Holy Roman Empire right now?
