Poll: 'Lets Play' Narrators

Hi there,

I like watching gameplay footage on youtube. Especially when I'm thinking of buying a game and want to see a long play through.

However, if there's one thing I cannot stand it's people talking whilst they're playing. I want to listen to the music and get engrossed in the game. I think narrators have this belief that they can be funny and informative when most of the time, to me at least, they seem to talk a load of drivel, with many of them having really annoying accents.

So I was wondering - am I alone here? What's your thoughts on people who do this?

I don't do these let's play. But when I narrate, everything I say is just random

I love Let's Players watching gameplay is kind of dull without narrators, though the narrator has to be good like Zegjita or HCBailly or it can just make it worse.

Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.

If it's a Let's Play, there better be narration (bonus points if it's funny), but if it's just plain gameplay footage, I prefer not to have narration.

Depends on how annoying their voice is and how often they talk. I was watching a lets play once and it consisted of about 5 seconds of game sounds, then some high pitched harpy would cut in and give her life story on one freaking word!

I prefer it as text really. A mic can pick up background noise and constant breathing.

I think you're referring to the people who stop at the stupidest points and point out the insanely obvious, and if so, I agree tenfold. That and the announcers for the weekly top ten for machinima. It makes me want Mr. Croshaw to come up with a punishment for me. and thats bad.

I cannot even remember how many fucking times I tried to check out gameplay only to be endlessly annoyed by some fucking idiot who can't shut the fuck up.

I like someone talking during gameplay footage, because I have to know what every little thing is. What's that thing? No don't just put your mouse over it, what does it do? Is it an item? Why are you leaving it? Is it bad? What about that thing in the corner over there? You didn't even look at it!
I've only watched a couple Lets Play videos and I enjoyed the Narrators, particularly the Morrowind one by GixG17 he tended to dawdle a lot but still enjoyable, perhaps because I am enticed by his voice..
Er, because he's..funny and informative, yeah.
Narration the entire time makes me feel like I'm hearing and watching an actual play experience rather than just watching an exhibit of the game. Although I do see how depending on the narrator it could be quite irritating.

aren't all lets plays just walkthroughs with commentary? if you don't want narration watch a walkthrough.

i kinda like it
some of them make humour around the game and if your stuck on something it can really help you out having it explained

I'm fine with watching both silent and talking Let's Plays. I make some myself, although my voice isn't the best in the universe for it D:

I prefer LPers who either A: are pretty informative and knowledgeable about the game, or B: are funny. LPers like raocow fuse this sort of combination - he's really random and nonchalant about saying the strangest things but he knows about the games he plays.
