Poll: 'Lets Play' Narrators

You know, I noticed that nobody mentioned the Let's Play Archive [http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/]. Bunch of great LPs in there.

I prefer it as text really. A mic can pick up background noise and constant breathing.

Same here. I like hearing the player's thoughts or explanations of what they're doing, but for me the bigger problem with voiced narration is that the voice is usually very annoying. So I prefer additional text.

I don't mind it. Why? Because of this:

aren't all lets plays just walkthroughs with commentary? if you don't want narration watch a walkthrough.

This was my understanding- a walkthrough is just a run-through of the game with nothing extraneous, whereas a Let's Play was as if you were sitting next to your buddy as he talked about the game while playing it.

Then again, I've been contemplating doing an LP or two myself....

It's a rare gift, but when you find someone who is genuinely funny whilst playing a game it is real gold.

For example:

Spoony (of The Spoony Experiment) is hysterical while narrating SWAT 4.

Linkara (of Atop the Fourth Wall) may be hit and miss with his Let's Play of Star Trek Elite Force, but for the most part his stuff is hysterical (especially when he flips his shit about insects in FPS games).

But it is a rare gift.

Hi there,

I like watching gameplay footage on youtube. Especially when I'm thinking of buying a game and want to see a long play through.

However, if there's one thing I cannot stand it's people talking whilst they're playing. I want to listen to the music and get engrossed in the game. I think narrators have this belief that they can be funny and informative when most of the time, to me at least, they seem to talk a load of drivel, with many of them having really annoying accents.

So I was wondering - am I alone here? What's your thoughts on people who do this?

i enjoy both, it depends on the person, if he/she feels annoying to my ears or not.

also, there should be LP's or Gaming Live videos on THIS Site here on the Escapist!
