As much as I hate to say this I don't think either label fits.... dude.

But I'd say overall I lean more to the left than I do to the right.

The idea is that it gives more people more freedom, and while I do agree that the benifets is done abysmally, I also beleive that people earning millions of dollars a year should contribute more money to societys infrastructure(not for stupid g'ment add campagns or bullshit "we're helping" money funneling). I don't beleive that anyone should go hungry, but I do beleive that people who don't work shouldn't get so much that they aren't motivated to improve themselves.
Hmmm. This is where I guess things partially come down to terminology(and how you define things) and personal beliefs. But I don't think benefits=freedom, one could make arguments that it does but the lowerclass isn't more "free" because they get housing/health/food provided(better off(arguablly) but not more free. While at the same time the rich are told that half of your work(wealth) is going to be taken under threat of force/jail/loss of property. I just don't see how its "just" for a government to basically say for half the year you work for me.
I can see where you're coming from, and I do agree that it's not fair for the government to demand to spend the money of the people. I just don't have any better soloution for an equal society and (to me) it seems like the lesser of two evils, especially when a portion of the superrich have done nothing more than be born into wealth. I really don't like how people on the doll can live comfortably, it should be enough to survive but not enough so anyone would be content. Even better than giving them (the people claiming the doll) money to spend, they should be given resource (food, electricity vouchers etc).

At any rate, it isn't just the rich who pay tax, the middle class do as well (I'm part of the poorest demographics-students, and even I pay tax). There has to be some distribution of wealth otherwise life will go back to the way it was during the industrial revoloution (very few people had any wealth/power, and the inevitable change was forced by the masses), it's a very difficult thing to regulate fairly though.

I'd recommend looking up the information on the % of taxes paid by and how much of the total amount of taxes paid by each monetary bracket in your country are. Last time I did some research on it, I was actually pretty surprised by my findings.

I consider myself to be very conservative, but when I talk to other people who are supposed to be very conservative they irritate me somewhat. I'll listen to a view if it's articulte and well argued, but I'm pretty firm in my opinions. I also think that many things aren't obvious (with some exceptions), and I can see both sides of the issue most of the time.

You know, statistically speaking more people are moderate, rather then either Liberal or Conservative....or at least, that's what most people claim to be.

My opinions tend to shift depending on the stance either side takes.

Dude, the Conservatives are evil. Bros, heed what I'm saying.
They are the creationist parasites that refuse to evolve and see reason. They think the earth is 6000 years old, we were made by a bearded man, and that homosexuals want to turn the world gay and have a giant orgy and destroy their way of life.

Liberals are just as bad. They preach about tolerance and how censorship is bad, but at the same time condone government restriction such as gun control and economic interference.

Both side is so firmly vested in their views they will never change and sees themselves as the only ones with logic.

The only way to fix this is to tear it all down man. We have to get everyone together and work towards change. Not by voting for some guy who says he'll change things, but by actually contributing.

Instead of donating money to the charity that takes 30%, volunteer at a soup kitchen, or bring some food to your local shelters. And instead of giving money to the beggars on the street, talk to them. Ask them why they don't get a job. See if you can give them a metaphorical fishing pole.

Then you will realize that objectivity is the light political parties are ultimately pointless.

Quit bitching and start a revolution.

Do you bros dig it?

Once again, we're talking about conservatives and liberals, not Republicans and Democrats. There are liberal republicans and there are conservative democrats.

I'm a bit of both. High personal freedom except were it harms others and a strongly regulated market. Also i'm very left, maybe even by Swedish standards.

I think this thread runs the risk of getting a bit mixed up by different understandings of the terms 'Liberal' and 'Conservative', so I'm going to try and clear it up a bit (and probably create more confusion in the process)

The Liberal v Conservative idea is a very American one. In Europe, and indeed most the world, these words have a rather different meaning.

As far as I understand it, in America, Conservative is a catch-all word for those on the right, typically in favour of a free-market economy and traditional social values. Liberal usually refers to those on the left, in favour of greater state intervention in the economy and progressive social values.

In Europe, it's quite different. Conservatives are similar to American ones in the sense of social values (opposition to gay marraige, abortion etc.) but tend to be more moderate in these views. European Conservative parties tend to be described as centre-right or Christian Democrat rather than Conservative. They are usually less strongly in favour of free market economics than their American counterparts. A European Conservative would probably be considered a Centrist or a Moderate in the United States.

On the other side of the political divide in Europe are Social Democrats and Socialists. They roughly correspond to American Liberals but then to be more radical, particularly in the area of economic policy. Liberals form a third and smaller group in European polictics, in favour of progressive social values and free market economics. The closest equivalent is Libertarians in the US.

TL;DR: The words Liberal and Conservative mean something different outside North America.

Exactly this.

I question anyone's intelegence who has ALWAYS voted one way. If you have, you have obviously not done your reasearch before you vote. My voting has been all over the place, because I vote for the individual that I think will best represent me and my family. They have been Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, and Conservatives. I consider myself and independent and also think that the two party system is killing the US. I personally think that if you are not educated about who you are voting for, you shouldn't be allowed to vote. OK, not really, but there are too many people out there who have no idea who they are voting for. I saw a news video that polled people after the 2008 elections and one of the questions they asked was "What do you think of Obama's Vice presidental candidate, John McCain?" And they all replied that they liked him (and they voted for Obama, they had no clue). Basically, if you put Obama's name on it, they loved it. And all of them thought that the republicans had control of the senate and congress. These are your voters, ignorant sheep.

European Liberal, I believe in Free Market Economics, (though regulation does need to be tightened,) and personal freedom above all else. In England its best to describe me as a guardian reader.

I'm a mostly left-wing, strongly anti-clerical, pro-trade union, inclusive, individual focused, slightly pro-Europe, liberaterian with some quite right-wing opinions on self-defence and law, from a family who hate to see politics simplified to an "us vs them" of liberal and conservative.
Most people just call me a liberal.

I'm a moderate consevative. I belive in many liberal philosophys (gay marriage, abortion, legalizing it), but I still belive in the core family values of the conservaives as well as a minimum amount of government interference in the market (although SOME regulation is a must). I also dislike affirmative action.

I follow a philosophy President Eisenhower said, it was somthing like: "Be liberal when it comes to people and be conservative when it comes to the ecconomy"

However I vote for who ever is the best canidate in my mind, not whatever crazy ass governer the Republicans tell me I sould vote for. (kinda ironic that I'm somthing of a conservative, yet I belive that America's greatest president was Franklin Deleno Roosevelt)
