Gears of War 2.
Bioshock, I like it, but for sheer fun to play, GoW wins hands down, I have to be in the right mood for Bioshock.
Half Life 2, fun, but not pure awesome.
Halo 3, not too high
Call of Duty 4, I don't know what I ever saw in the CoD games after CoD 3, they went so wrong.
I agree, futuristic and steampunk combat is more exciting than realistic combat
I know right, I play games to get away from the modern day, I have enough problems in it to want to escape it, I love escaping to the future and to sail the ocean of space and defeat the enemies of Man, it's more fun for me than a bunch of Middle Eastern terrorists.
If I wanted to partake in realistic combat I'd enlist in the Army

THATS RIGHT. I SAID IT. ALL THOSE GAMES WERE BETTER THAN HALF LIFE. BRING THE RAIN.
It appears that someone is desperate for attention.

I prefer Half-Life first.

Followed by BioShock.

Then Call of Duty 4.

Next would be Gears of War 2.

In last place of this list of game preferences, would lie Halo 3.

When i bought orange box. Yes its sad i didn't get to play it back in the day when it was great. I'm sure it was the cats tuxedo. But to say its greater than newer games is like saying Ocarina of Time is better than Twilight Princess.
it is, but that is beside the point.
Some old games age
and some of the games on this list haven't been given the time to age and got the lovely advantage of having new technology at it's disposal. In order, for me at least, to judge games side by side they need to either be recent or I need to have played both when they were new and compare my experiences. This is how I can make statements like the one above this quote with full certainty.
That means they aren't as great as newer games.
I completely disagree with your conclusion.

Of course, "Best Game" is a matter of opinion and yours is as valid as mine. After all, we all experience things differently. Hell, it's possible that we don't even see the same things.

Half Life 2
Call of Duty 4
Gears of War 2
Halo 3
Bioshock

I don't feel the need to justify HL2 any more than I have in another thread. Call of Duty 4 wins the second space not only because of it's exceptional single player campaign, but because of its strong multiplayer offering. Gears of War 2 wins third place entirely because of the COOP component, which I felt was stronger than that in Halo 3. Halo 3 wins fourth place because of it's co-op offerings and the amount of fun I've had playing it on local multiplayer (I've logged a few hours on XBL). Bioshock is number 5 for me because the glimpses of brilliance the game had and the immersive setting did little to make up for a core game mechanic that I simply did not enjoy as much as I would have liked. In fact, Bioshock was a game that I would grind through specifically to see those little moments of greatness, and the grind was nearly enough that I gave up on the game altogether.

I really didn't think that Halo 3 lived up to the expectations.

Bioshock
Call of Duty 4
Half Life 2
Gears of War 2
Halo 3

Bioshock: Speechless description...
Call of Duty 4: I love the multiplayer and the challenge in single player, so balanced, so fun
Half Life 2: I love this game, but it doesnt beat CoD4... Counterstrike Sourse on the other hand...
Gears of War 2: I borrowed it, Finished it, Was done with it
Halo 3: Shields in multiplayer should not be allowed, it takes the fun out of an assault rifle headshot

Half-Life 2
Gears of War 2
Halo 3
BioShock
Call of Duty 4

Perhaps if Call of Duty 1 or 2 were on the list I would place it higher up, but nobody seems to remember they exist (THEY'RE BETTER THAN 4, World at War, and I have exceedingly low expectations for Modern Warfare 2).

Call of Duty 4
Half Life 2 (as long as we're including the episodes)
Bioshock
Gears of War 2
Halo 3.

There, that was easy.

interesting that the poll and the actual answers in the thread don't line up...

Personally though, i can't imagine anyone with a console picking HL2 as their favorite. The ports of it were shite, and the relatively small numbers of PC gamers compared with console gamers would seem to skew HL2 out of the top rankings...

go figure.

Oh and as a PC gamer:

HL2 or COD4 as #1
Bioshock
GOW 2
Halo 3

For the most part, the pre-pubescent gaming population make Halo 3's otherwise fun multiplayer useless... and the campaign is mediocre at best. Otherwise I'd rank it higher.

1. Half Life 2
2. Bioshock
3. Call of Duty 4

Games that don't exist on PC are dead to me.
