I subscribe to the popular (but not as cool as The Escapist) gaming magazine "Game Informer". Upon receiving my latest issue, I cracked the publication open to a random page, and read.
And was pissed.
It seems as though every gaming journalist is calling this game Little Big Planet a sleeper hit.
EVERY gaming journalist.
Which, to me, begs the question: If everyone is writing about it, can it really be considered a "sleeper hit", emphasis on the word "sleeper"?

OK, saw the title and thought you were ker-azzy. But now I see you agree with me in thinking that this game has been tipped for the big time for some some time now. Not that it won't get there, but still.

Tell those journalists to do one.

I guess they don't understand the term "sleeper hit."

I would call a sleeper hit an obscure game of very high quality and almost universally loved by the few that played it.

A sleeper hit is a game that no-one was really aware of or expecting much of, but turns the world inside out.
That's exactly what I mean: everyone knows about Little Big Planet, and all of it's press has been applauding it.

From wiki:

A sleeper hit (often simply called a "sleeper") refers to a film, book, single, album, TV show, or video game that gains unexpected success or recognition.

The wacky thing is someone was paid to write that LBP is a sleeper hit and this was then followed by someone who was paid to edit that sentence.

I agree with everyone so far...I can't think of a single person that I know who hasn't heard of LBP, so how could it be a sleeper hit???

It hasn't it, as far as I know, with the Frat Boy and Dumb Kid crowds, where the real money is(see Halo).

I'm thinking of Cult Classic, which it is, in the way Rocky Horror Picture show is.

Sleeper hit, not really. Everyone knew about it, lots of people were excited for some odd reason, and I'm guessing it will sell well.

It's not a sleeper because everyone knew about it, there were even T.V. commercials, and not a hit because it hasn't been a big mainstream hit.

i just saw the review for LittleBigPlanet on X-play and it got a 5 out of 5 and the only problem with the game was it was hard to control the sackboy in complex jumps but they will be releasing a patch for that soon after its release

But isn't it a PS3 Exclusive? The cutesy Wii crowd doesn't have a PS3. And the controller is too complicated.

It has buttons man!

It can't be a sleeper hit, because everyone who doesn't live under a rock on Mars knows about it, because Sony have been harping on about it for about the last three straight years.

If it wasn't recieving (vastly) more than the usual amount of gaming press attention, but went on to be successful, then it would be a sleeper hit.

Katamari Damacy was a sleeper hit, no-one at all knew what to make of it before release, it was just Japanese And Weird, then it came out, was fun, and sold loads.

It also costs about the price of two Wiis.
