I subscribe to the popular (but not as cool as The Escapist) gaming magazine "Game Informer".
Ah, so the 2 pages that weren't ads talked about LBP being a sleeper hit?

People still buy gaming mags?
Blimey, I stopped when they stopped putting demo disks on the front.

As for sleeper..... it's already had it's 3rd coffee of the day and is thinking about lunch..
Not at all a sleeper.

Hmm what makes it an indie game per se?
The studios made up of like 25 people.
Which has absolutely no bearing on whether the game is Indie or not. Indie games are Independent games, games made without funding or involvement from a major publisher (especially a publisher seperate from the actual developer). Introversion, for instance, make indie games.

LittleBigPlanet was funded and developed under the auspices of Sony directly. It is not an indie game at all, studio size has absolutely nothing to do with it. Desperate attempts to assign some kind of indie cred to it notwithstanding.

Apparently they've shot themselves in the foot, as i'm sure everyone knows by now they've recalled all copies of the game because it has lines from middle-easter-religious-texts in it's soundtrack
...and is being released again next week.
This pisses me off a fair bit. They didn't pull back a game for ransacking a fucking cathedral but they pull back a game for two lines of the Quran? In a generally non-violent game no less?

Pardon the pun, but Jesus Christ >(

This game is more hyped than when my neighbor's mother gets drunk on Canada day and starts getting naked in the backyard!

Resistance had been out for ages before any of the duffers in the CofE managed to get as far as the Manchester level, so it took a while for that to arise.

Also, their complaint was really vague, they tried to paint it as some kind of copyright issue, though I very much suspect that Manchester Cathedral is out of copyright now, work having begun on it in 1215.

I heard on the news that the game is being recalled for a song which contains verses of the koran. After the fiasco with the cartoons, I guess we wouldn't want to upset the Muslims and anyone who can't take a fucking joke. Anyway, I disagree with the 'sleeper' thing, being mentioned in the news is proof that the game is quite well known.

It was on the 90 second News Update just before EastEnders (a very, very, popular TV Show here in the UK), so, no.

I think everyone knows about it, even those without a game console.

Hey, you know what else has lines from the Qu'ran? The fucking Qu'ran. What, do they not want people reading it?

(yeah, yeah, I know, not respectful to put religious context in something that is entertainment, I guess)

I would define a sleeper hit as a game that does not receive copious amounts of hype until after it has been released, and that hype is generated from the players, not the publishers. Examples IMHO...

Shadow of Colossus
Okami
Psyconauts

All of these games had fairly meager launches, but thanks to the interwebs, they gained popularity and grew.

LBP, not a sleeper.

I think it's more of an extremely hyped sort of game than a sleeper hit, frankly even my classmates who only think about counter-strike and Pro Evolution Soccer know about it and gaming culture isn't exactly their strong point. FOR GOD'S SAKE WHO DOENS'T KNOW STREET FIGHTER?

I think it might be a sleeper hit in the sense of actively coming out of nowhere and changing everything.
I missed the part where a platfrom game was changing everything by including a level editor.
