I am a college student and I live with my parents happily. I have been thinking about moving closer to my college, but my parents really like having me home, and I do very much love my home. But when other people know i can live at college, and still choose at home and commute 1 1/2 hours every day they wonder why?

So my question is what are my fellow escapists living condition's in relation to there parents or maybe other family?

I am currently 26 and moved out of my mum's house when I was 24 after some...unhappiness in the job market (whoda thought that an Art major would have trouble getting a job!). During college (18-22), I lived at the college dorm and came home for summers.

They didn't mind me being there but both of us wanted me to not live there. It's not that I was annoying or in the way but once you hit a certain age, you just want to not live at your parents anymore (this age varies person by person... unfortunately some never hit that age :)

I hate my current living situation as I really don't like the town or even general area of the country where I spend most of my time. But some weekends & most holidays I stay with my parents, and they're totally fine with it and probably will be until I graduate and am in a place that I enjoy living. It's not like I want to be dependent, but I really have no choice for at least two years.

Well I moved out and went to Liverpool University four weeks ago, and by the end of the third week I had finalised my transfer to Sheffield University and began living with my parents once again.

They were a little disappointed that I couldn't cope on my own, but they'd much rather have me here than massively depressed somewhere far away.

I am 21, moved away from home first time about 3 months ago.
I liked living at home, of course it's nice to live were I do now, moved due to school being a 3hour trip away from home.
Parents are neutral about it and I go home every once in a while, I get well along with both parents and they said if something fucks up I am always welcome back home until the situation is sorted out.

Glad I moved out. I love my mother but I cannot live with that woman. Would they take me back? Most definitely but do I want to? HELL NO

I'm 20 and this is my first semester of college living on my own. Mainly because the past two years I went to college out of state, and therefore it was much easier to just live in a dorm. Living on my own, now, is a pain. Having to pay my own rent, utilities, food, all that, and only able to work 24 hours a week is really hard to make ends meet sometimes.

But that being said, while my parents probably wouldn't care if I moved back in with them, I don't want to. Because my dad constantly held the grudge, before, of, "I was completely self sufficient from my parents at 18! Why can't you do it at 20?!" I can't deal with that sort of thing. -.-

So... I'm living on my own because I need my independence, and because I'm stubborn as hell.

I live with my father. He likes having me there. I usually like being there. I'll be there until the end of my university, at which point I'll either leave, or start paying rent. Until then, I get to not really grow up and deal with the real world. That makes me happy. :)

18, living with the mum.
She seems to freak out whenever I take another step towards "adulthood" so I imagine moving out would probably kill her.

I've lasted on my own effectively in the past, but financially there's no real justification for me living on my own. I'm (just now) 21, and am going off to a different state for college come january. Not sure what happens after school is done, but my folks like having me around. I still want to get an apartment with my best friend ASAP. We're a game design team, and when we're under the same roof we can get 3 playable hours of a game done in a week.

I guess my answer is 'I love my folks, they love me, I still want to be independent, but I don't have the money and opportunity yet'. I'd probably visit home or at least go out with my family once a month or two.

I've lived away from home since I started uni a couple of years back, I might move back in once I finish uni depending on where my job is, however hopefully not since I intend to work out of the UK for a year or two.

I'm 21 and except for the 2 month interval between my degree ending and my PhD beginning I've been living away from home for the last 3 years and those 2 months at home came with conditions attatched (had to pay rent, share of bills whatever was added to the council tax etc and had to do my best to make myself scarce whenever my Mum wanted to have 'company'). At this point I'm fairly sure the gates on ever living back with my Mum have been effectively closed (though I doubt she would openly say it), which is fine by since I can't see me ever wanting to live back at home.

I like it here and to quote my mother "you stay here as long as you need to". With me in college and the economy in the toilet, she understands that getting a place on my own might take awhile, and I appreciate that.

I still live with my mom. Well, "still". I'm 18 so you know. Don't think she minds.

I'd gladly move out and face new and frightening challenges like cooking and washing my own clothes, but I have no way to finance it.
You're 18? Huh, for some reason I always thought that you were at least a decade older than me.

I'm 20 and live at home. I spent one year living in halls which I wasn't particularly fond of and another living with my aunt during my failed tenure at uni, but now I'm back and I have to say I like it here. I don't think they mind having me around either, even if I am kind of a burden.
