Poll: LOL,ROFL,LMAO (Internet speak) Does it piss you off?

I'm going to be totally honest here; I greatly dislike internet/Instant message speak. Whenever I see a LOL, I die a little inside. Whenever a ROFLCOPTER is typed, I get a little nauseous.

I was just wondering if there is anyone who shares my feelings here. And if one looks at my past posts they will see I never use these lazy words (um...until now).

Do you also avoid these "abbreviations"? Or do you have no problem with them? Do you only use them when typing, or also in conversation?

Lol is all I use and that's when I find something amusing. Other things like ROFL,Noob piss me off since all of them are dumb.

i dont mind small things, like lol brb and such but when it goes too far it annoys my to no end LOLZ

It depends on the words and on the situation. If someone types lol, afaik or iirc I don't really mind. If someone types something like ROFL or LMAO, I do get pissed.
I know I'm weird...

LOL, ROTFL, OMGWTFBBQ, WTF, all those don't bother me so much, but "ur" and no capitalization and punctuation can DIAF.

I never used to, but sometimes they slip in. But it really depends on the culture of the place. In places like forums I try to limit them to a minimum, but on IM, it's just quicker to whack in a brb.

I don't ever replace you or for with 4 or u, because that makes me kill crazy. And people who spell was as 'woz' should just explode. IT'S NOT EVEN A GODDAMN ABBREVIATION.

I also smack in a 'I lol'd' in real life sometimes, but not instead of actual laughter because that would be creepy.

Lol, noob, nabcake, nabtard, epic, pwn, and other pronounceable game slang is only spoken when i'm speaking to fellow gamer friends, cause they just tend to draw blank stares of "huh?" from the non-gaming people i know

I only really get pissed off from them if I'm texting someone and they only reply with a "lol". It just seems like a dicksmack...

I don't use it much myself, usually only in jest, but I have no problem with it in certain cases. Like in instant messaging or texting it's fine. You're actually carrying on a conversation in real time, stopping every sentence for a spellcheck can slow down the speed of the conversation to a crawl. If I'm trying to coordinate the plans for the evening with my friends, I'd rather get an ugly looking response fast than a grammatically correct response ten minutes later.

Posting on forums, however, is another beast entirely. You're not on a time limit here, unless the topic sucks and is about to be locked. You can afford to put in a little extra effort to make your post look presentable.

And of course, using internet speak in real life is a justification for keelhauling.

Things such as "lol", "afaik" and "brb" I find perfectly acceptable in fast-paced games where there is no time to write out anything more long winded, although I tend not to use them too much myself.

However, on forums or similar they are completely unacceptable. There's no need for haste in replying to a thread on a forum, so I prefer it when people take the time to write out a proper response, with at least adequate spelling and grammar, and devoid of any text speak or "leet speak" nonsense.

It's not where I'm writing, it's the tone of the writing. I'll use 'net speak in any situation, but only to emphasise a joke or to act out a role. It's like sarcasm, but with different connotations.

Using them to mock somthing stupid is a frequent of mine so saying I HATE them would be really pushing it to hypocrites street, more like I have no respect for people who use them in favor of actual language when appropriate.

I don't mind the occasional internet slang online or while playing a game.. but I've developed a bad habit of saying lol or rofl sometimes (not all the time mind you, just sometimes)in real life and that does annoy me.

I've always followed the saying "If you're going to say "plz" because it's shorter than "please", I'm going to say "no" because it's shorter than "yes".
