If only ALL customers were like this....

Have you ever had a crappy job with shitty customers? Yes you did. If not, then you're one lucky ************. I had my first day for my summer job yesterday. I woke up at 5 A.M and took my bike, for a 15 minutes trip, to a Canadian Tire gazbar. My new boss told me to put up some cones. hold an exit sign and tell the customers to go the other entrance if they want gaz. (It was a 5 cents per litre special for the day and we didn't want to block the traffic. )

I'm standing there for about 9 hours with a hot sun, some dusty winds and feeling that it will be a long day. It was a busy day, but I told myself that the pay would be good and I would look good in front of my boss. Let me tell you something...I was not ready for the customers.

I've been standing there and telling people to go the other way, but some idiots do not want to listen. I've been called asshole, ************ and other insults all the day. My feet were hurting.
I almost got hit by 3 impatient customers.

They never thought about one thing: DUDE, I'm just doing my job. Why are you being an asshole with me? (I've never told them, but I've been thinking about it all day).

Have you ever had job that ended up like this? Do you have your own stories?

Please share them with us. It may make your day a little bit better.

I feel so lucky that I've never had to deal with an asshole customer and I've been working at my job for about 2 years now. I think this is mostly due to the fact that my boss takes no shit and if you are an asshole to anyone (except him for some reason) you are banned from the store (which is a beer distributor) and its a small store in a suburban area so only the people close by come to it and most of them come there very regularly.

Sadly karma is not on my side, I might not have to deal with asshole customers but anything else that goes wrong always happens when I'm there, so it kind of balances out.

I work as a customer service rep for a wireless company of the US.

At first I thought that the customers wouldn't be as bad as they said, but I was wrong, especially thinking that people wouldn't be as mean with a female rep. So very wrong.

I fortunately have only had jobs in the art department at my college, so being nice to me was part of the other students' grades. :3

My mother works in dialysis, though, and she's dealing with sick, dying and old people all day as they're hooked up to these uncomfortable machines for hours. All these factor into grouchy, miserable and occasionally ignorant and downright misogynist patients. And the worst part is that the average life expectancy is five years, so if they are pleasant, she has to see them die...

Working in the service industry is not easy, so while I do expect a level of professionalism, it does take a lot to make me be upset with service.
I mean, I just gave the guys giving me an estimate on our roof some bottles of ice water- not because they're doing a job for me, but because they're people who have been on a black roof in 95 degree weather. There shouldn't be a hierarchy based on who is the customer, it should be, above all else, people to people.
Understand the circumstances and respect the other people!

I used to work at a price chopper I was underpaid (worked for 2 years with no raise even when they legally had to give me one it took them 6 months) overworked (they would give me 9 hour shifts everyday but one all summer with no help even for taking the loads of the truck which i wasnt supposed to be doing) and underappreciated (the bosses would get pissed off over every little thing if I was trying to pace myself they would get angry i was to slow I even got threaten for saying it nice we have a new door)

once a lady sliped on a single blueberry and essentilly accused me of pushing her over because the floors wernt clean enough and if you have ever worked in a grocery store people take berrys and toss them all over the place its impossible to clean up corn husks are a nightmare

I work at Taco Bell currently.

If that doesn't say enough, you don't know how many people come through and try to get free shit out of us again and again. It is really depressing just how many Americans will do anything to save $.10.

Working as a manager for a fast food place, I've seen pretty much every jackass in the book. I've had a gun pulled on me, I've had food thrown back in my face (literally), I've had people accuse me of being racist for trying to explain to them that we don't carry certain sandwiches anymore, I've had more than enough of the "Oh, she's here to serve me, I'll treat her like the trash she is" attitude...Ugh.

On a higher note, anyone else read Not Always Right? If you don't, go Google it. Now. You'll thank me in an hour or two when you're done laughing.

Yeah, I hear you. And people shouldn't behave like that to people just doing their jobs.

Even so, I chose the third option, because there are the occasional groups of 'customer service' people, especially in large corporations who either genuinely don't care, are instructed not be helpful, or don't know what they're doing.

There's nothing as frustrating as calling tech support or sales or something at a company only to have the person tell you something that you know is just complete and utter bullshit which at best is explicitly designed to confuse you or be misleading.

It's very hard to remain calm and reasonable when a company is screwing you over, and the person supposed to 'help' with this doesn't even seem to understand what you're complaining about.

Granted, that seems to be the fault of the company more so than the person, but since they are the only means of contact...

Still, that's mostly an issue with huge corporations and their 'customer service' departments, who universally seem to be trained to be as aggravating as possible...

I'd imagine working those jobs must be pretty stressful considering what seems to be going on.

The only argument I can think of for customers being assholes is that of macroeconomics. If customers are more demanding, that drives businesses to provide better services. But even I can't buy into that argument. Especially when most people in the service industry make terrible wages for what they're asked to do.

I want to get into politics only so I can pass a law requiring everyone to spend at least 1 year of their life working in retail or food service industry. That way, they can appreciate what it's like. I worked in retail for 6 years during high school and college, and I'm definitely a better person because of it.

I notice that Ex-Subway employees are the angriest people in the world. Maybe its making millions of Chicken Bacon Ranch Sandwiches to fat people that miss the point of going to Subway in the first place.

While I have had less-than-stellar jobs, I'm in Canada. So as much as I complain about customers to my friends, and despite how mad some people obviously get, very few people are actually rude to me.

Interestingly, the ones who are rude typically are tourists or fresh immigrants. Hmmmm.
