I work at Taco Bell currently.

If that doesn't say enough, you don't know how many people come through and try to get free shit out of us again and again. It is really depressing just how many Americans will do anything to save $.10.
At first I saw $10 and thought, that's not that bad.
But then I saw the . and felt sad.
We sell a small bowl of potatoes. They're something like $1.50 (I don't man the registers, lest I get fired for shooting my mouth off at customers like this one, so I don't know for sure) and then we have sides of sauces and stuff for $.75. This man requires us ring up a side of potatoes for the $.75, but give him the entire bowl. He has actually called our corporate office because of it multiple times. It's three fucking quarters. Just reach in your pocket and get it.

Really? No link yet?

Yes!

Not Always Right [http://notalwaysright.com/] is literally a website of stories like this. Seems like you, OP, and others here would be interested :p

Personally, I have not had a job yet in 16 years of my life. But I'll be getting one after GCSE's are over. I eagerly await being abused by the general public for making trivial errors.

Working as a manager for a fast food place, I've seen pretty much every jackass in the book. I've had a gun pulled on me, I've had food thrown back in my face (literally), I've had people accuse me of being racist for trying to explain to them that we don't carry certain sandwiches anymore, I've had more than enough of the "Oh, she's here to serve me, I'll treat her like the trash she is" attitude...Ugh.

On a higher note, anyone else read Not Always Right? If you don't, go Google it. Now. You'll thank me in an hour or two when you're done laughing.
Higher note? Higher note!?

I did Google that, and found what is perhaps the very bane of humanity. I can understand stupid moments, sure, that happens to everyone. But really? How can someone's level of thought go that low? That's paradoxically something less than not thinking!

Now I understand why people lose faith in the human race.
It's cathartic for those of us who've put up with it ourselves. You know, the whole "I'm not the only one" feelings boost. And some of them are just so stupid they're impossible not to laugh at.

I worked in pizza delivery while I was in college and every time I got a rude customer (or one that didn't tip) I had the satisfaction of knowing that the next time I took their order I'd be alone and unsupervised with their food. I gotta say you would be amazed what you can do to a pizza that will go totally unnoticed by the people eating it.

Moral of this story kids? Be nice and always tip your pizza guy.

Absolutely love Not always right.

But have to choose the third option, there are customers that make you want to slit their throats, but there are employees who are legitimately horrible at their job and/or have abysmal attitudes. You can be an asshole to them, just not imo publicly, there's decorum to maintain, potentially young people nearby, take up your shit to their bosses.

I work at an ice cream place for a decently large campground where a lot of city people from Chicago come so I see my fair share of assholes. I've had people yell at us and blame us for shitty weather, people have complained about not having 1 particular flavor in stock just for them, and people have purposely thrown their ice cream at us because it wasn't "done correctly"

Also, this thread reminds me of this song:

I once had a guy report me to my manager because I was rude when I said "Thank you". He was looking for a wind-up alarm clock in electronics, I said "We don't have those in electronics sir, those are in housewares" and I pointed him just 20 feet in one direction where they were lined on a wall. I would have gone with him to show him but I was the only one there at the moment, so he goes off on his own and comes back saying "There was a big wall of them!" I reply "Good to know, thank you", so he reports me for being rude.

One of my co-workers said my accent makes me sound like I'm being a little sarcastic when I say "Thank you" but I think he just has something against the Irish. Blaggard.

Ya people are assholes, if at all possible you should not deal with them, if you got a warning sign post it up and leave it there so people get pissy at the sign rather then you.

But then there are those employees who's job description entails harassment (selling you extra shit that noone wants, nagging for preorders, subscriptions, ...), it is still only their job but they should know there will be massive flak coming their way.

Excuse me if I offend people but as Yahtzee and Totalbiscuit have said Fanboys (WoW or otherwise) are entitled gits. And while not everyone is humble most people are dicks when costumers. And before you say "Well I'm nice to my server etc. etc." when was the last time you thanked the person at Starbucks for you coffee? When was the last time you said "May I please have a frappucino" or whatever. When was the last time you bid someone who worked at a taco bell or a grocery store a good day after they've serviced you?

The way I see it the customer may always be right but where I stand that just gives people more reason to be rude. Everyone in the market whether Wal-Mart, WinCo. or some place else are on their high horses, your there to spend your money and the employees should be gratful your even there? Not really seeing as you go to them and they don't come to you it's actually the other way around. Sure your giving them your money but your there to get their products.

People feel they are entitled to everything if they have the money for it and the customer is a person with the money. So let us point all our noises in the air and look down at people working for us. Perhaps we should throw a royal ball and shower in our gold baths.

Actually this reminded me of a scenario my Nephew worked at a Theater and guy willing bought a ticket to see Year One, the prehistoric movie with Jack Black and...whatever his name is. The guy walks out after the movie spots my Nephew and demands his money back for the horrible film. What is he suppose to do about it? He works at the food stand not the ticket stand.

Bottom line: Given enough room and everyone can be violent, product mongers. Black Friday should be proof of that.

Yes I do, I worked retail in a large pharmacy chain when I was sixteen for summer job, some of the people you have deal with are just complete and utter morons. I'd be asked questions like 'Why is this so expensive or why is this cheaper in another shop' and I'd just stand there looking at them, thinking to myself does it look like I have a say in the prices you cabbage.

Some people aswell just love opening dressings or packets right in front of you which are supposed to be kept sterile etc to 'see how big they are' and I'd be like >.< YOU CANT DO THAT!!!!! Eventually you will get through to people by saying by saying would you buy a box of sterile dressings if it has been opened and handled???

I remember one particular woman was looking for batteries for hearing aids one day, and she asked me 'Will these fit the hearing aids that my son/daughter owns (cant remember who they were for)' and I replied what with 'Do you have the packet of batteries on you or the hearing aid on you and we can have a look' To which she said she didnt and I said 'How am I supposed to guess when there are about 8 different sizes', she was there for about 10 minutes asking which ones would fit.... I dont think I've ever met anybody like her, she litterally would not listen to a word I was saying to her and she was insisting that I should know what would fit the hearing aid.

If I can help it I'm never, ever going to work a job where I have to serve the general public with a smile on my face ever again. True not everyone is an ass and most people are a pleasure to deal with, but it only takes one person to completely cock up your day.

Thinking that it's such a small thing that it should be given pretty much for free.

In my case, working with mobiles, a man yelled at me for almost 10 minutes demanding that I give him 1 minute to his account. Not 5, or 10 minutes. One.

Everyone else has already pointed out that customers are the worst part of any job. Like Randal in Clerks (slightly paraphrased): "I'd love this job, if it wasn't for the fucking customers."

I have noticed a tendency that helps, though. Your own personal disposition and energy can help control the flow of your day. Try to make it impossible for them to be dicks. Ambush them with niceness, and basically set the stage for your interaction.
This won't work all the time, since some customers want to basically dump their shitty lives on other people, but then just smile and remember that these people are stuck with their misery.

P.S. I spent five minutes trying to get a Captcha that actually had WORDS in it.

No Subway I fuck hate it there but I get away with murder on what I say to customers. One time fat woman was giving me a hard time and then she ordered a salad and I said good. then she ask for bacon on it and my response was "Well that is counter intuitive but ok." she got so angry but her boy friend was laughing so hard.

I actually remember this thread. My memories from 08 still serve. I didn't want to necro a thread.

Note* I've checked the last post...I didn't think that we had a post from this year!

When I worked at Burger King briefly(school thing) I was out cleaning tables. Saw one table with a less-than-half hamburger lying around and no markings that anyone actually sat there, so I threw it away. All of sudden an angry man charges me and start shouting about how incompetent and useless I am. He then drags me to the cashiers(?) and demands a new hamburger. He gets it and I'm left alone.

Sure, I'd be pissed it someone threw away my food as well, but come on...
