halo 1 definitely had the best game play, and although halo 2s game play felt a bit clunky i thought it had a pretty good story line. halo 3 was just shit on a stick. halo 3 odst was OK but it sure as fuck wasn't worth $60. Halo reach looks fun but i learned since the release of halo 3 not to trust those thought because although they make you feel warm and fuzzy inside it will only come back to kick you in the ass.

I was torn between 1 and 2. One was definatly the most memorable, but i wish i knew how much of my life was spent on the Halom 2 multiplayer. I hate Halo 3, but play halo wars sometimes when i feel like an RTS. Hey, how come thats not an option? Not that it would be my favorite.

*puts the flame shield up* Halo 1 is the one and ONLY halo i will EVER play. And only the Halo 1 for the PC cause it had awesome mods, and multiplayer.
*stamps approval* Fast combat, great AI, interesting characters, and exploitable ass mechanics. (hog launching anyone?) the only thing they changed in the sequels was graphics (only thing that didn't fuck with the game)
That O*%*&$ Pistol still pisses me off about H1.

Here's my issue with the series. I am huge on the story to take the game to further heights. H1 started great, until you had ~5 levels of Flood that extended playability artificially...

H2 would have been great, if I didn't beat the &%$$ thing in 1 day and a horrible, HORRIBLE cliffhanger that felt like a kick in the groin when I had to wait for another year for the next one.

H3 felt like a return to H1 era. You kicked ass, took names, you had an Arbiter and a plasma sword. The game was pretty well done.

H4 (ODST) really impressed me with the focus on the human element of a Halo story. Sadly, I only watched a playthrough, didn't play. Regardless, it seems to be an interesting game.

I can't consider Halo Wars as part of Halo... Reason being is that although it does fairly well as a standalone game, I just don't feel that an RTS carries the Halo mythos well.

completely agreed sir, halo 2 i put more into that multiplayer than any other game to this day i think, and h4 was impressive story wise, was just wayyyyy too fucking short and some of the guns were fucking pee shooters, i mean it takes half of a clip to the head of a grunt to take it down? horseshit, give me my super guns!!!

personally i love the halo story, after reading hte books it made me love the games even more

I only played 3 and ODST, I enjoyed 3 more. Can we really look back on the franchise before Reach hits?

Halo 1 was pretty good, but Halo 2 & 3 were ok. I never played ODST or Wars 'cause I really didn't care much for them. I really don't get how Halo is in fact so popular. But, that's another thread...

I've only really played Halo 1 and 2, and looking back, hell yeah, I'd go back to play.

Damn good games in my opinion.

I liked the Halo 2 multiplayer. I played the Halo 3 multiplayer that came along when I rented ODST, didn't like it at all.

Wow, not a single comment has flamed this thread so far, this has got to be a new record!

Hooray for indecisiveness, Halo 2 has the most addicting and replayable campaign for me, while Halo 3 had much greater standout moments, and Halo: CE was the best overall campaign to me out of the three, so yeah can't vote.

I don't like any of them. There are many genres better than FPS to play and even within its genre Halo still has its ass handed to it by games like Half-Life 1 & 2 and Bioshock.

I've played them all, not particularly impressed. They weren't bad, they just didn't leave a particularly discernible impression on me other than 'pretty average FPS'. Multiplayer can be fun, but I'd much prefer a game of Perfect Dark to be honest.
A Perfect Dark ksequel would be the tits. Loved that game (funnily enough Goldeneye bored me to tears).
I enjoyed the first Halo game, number 2 was fairly lacklustre, and I haven't even bothered to give 3 a go.
It's always been a fairly generic FPS series. The only innovative thing it had was introducing shields into combat, and even that was exceuted earlier and better in the Red Faction series on Ps2.

A lot of people seem to dislike Halo 2. Why is that? In my opinion it was a great game, epic story, alright graphics for its time. And the Arbiter missions were awesome. I liked them more than the MC ones.

Honestly, I liked ODST the most so far.

It had the best atmosphere and I liked the storytelling much more than the other games. It felt more compelling to have characters that were human, and remained... human and though the ol' MC was cool.. he just seems too robot like.

I liked that Bungie tried a different path, so far its worked for me- I'm looking forward to Reach.

There are still much better games in the genre, though. Better games overall as well. But as the series goes, thats my opinion
