Just a passing thought that i figured would make for an interesting discussion - would you consider yourself to value love or lust more? Love being the abandonment of casual one night stands and meaningless sex in search of fulfilment, a soulmate and so on whereas lust would mean just the opposite.

I consider myself to be a romantic. I've even been called 'Victorian' at one point for my ideals of love and how i value it above all else; particularly in a world that seems to emphasise the deconstruction of feelings and interpersonal relation. Take Charlie Harper from Two and a Half Men for example, until he meets Chelsea he has no idea of what love is or has any interest in it, but fulfills his lustful desires through endless scores of hot one night stands, and this seems to be the dogma that pervades modern society. (But perhaps i'm just cynical - the area where i live consists almost solely of this)

So, a simple question to you escapists - do you value casual sex over meaningful love?

Edit: There was meant to be a poll here, but i can't seem to get it working and / or it seems to have disappeared, my apologies.

They both seem to have their place. Though lust is easier to find than love so that would devalue it somewhat.

So love, as that gives greater fulfillment in the long term.

Lust.

I see romantic love as being the combination of lust and familiarity so I dont see romantic love forming without lust.

I at one time was considered a romantic, but experience has shown me that its impractical and rarely going to return on investment.

Guess I have bad luck, or perhaps where I am an evil prick by nature its karma kicking me in the ass.

I would never choose lust over love, there's something about my mind that I just couldn't do that without getting attached. But, my generation where I am values getting shite-faced on a beach more than love, so I get nothing!

I'm not sure I believe in love. But then again, I've never seen it work out.

Love isn't like the films anyway. But I'd love to think chivalary isn't dead.

ATM, I'd say lust but only because I'm only 19 and I really don't want to settle into a relationship.

Only going to marry if he's a rich old man with no children :p Gold digger when I'm young, Cougar when I'm old.

Love.
Lust wont last, Love will survive even the test of time.
I also believe that you can have Love without Lust.
But that's just me.

Love.

I dislike the idea of being used and such. Also, I will not do anything romantic or sexual with someone that I do not feel strongly for. I will always choose love over lust, even if today's world is all about lust.

I suppose I'm one of the few left that truly stick with the idea of a "soulmate."

Fucking hell. I swear every guy on this site says that bloody line: "I consider myself to be a romantic." Normally in a post where they ***** and moan about how, "girls hate nice guys".

Anyway, it's far easier to be lustful for (of?) someone. Also, there's more on that scale then just those two. I take it you're just leaving out the middle ground of liking (as in 'fancying' - hate that word) someone for the sake of this question?

On a side-note: Are people not ticking the "include poll" box, or are the polls just not loading?

Well seeing as this has been done before, it's time to link something this time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDWWzUv44nw

Also love.

Love. I want to be happy with another person for a long time, not just a single night and who I will probably forget. Personal company can make things so much better in general life.

Lust without love is meaningless to me. In my opinion, nothing more than a leftover from evolution, not really that relevant now that we don't need to have as many babies as possible to survive as a species.

Love, on the other hand, is, in my mind, one of our defining characteristics as humans.

As mentioned in the edit, i do believe the polls aren't loading. I'm positive i clicked the poll box and added the options.

As a side note to your comment, i would say the opposite - girls don't hate nice guys at all. In fact, i've found it's the romantics who can tame the wildest of cats, so to speak. However, them not being interested at all is a different story and not something you can force. I don't nor wouldn't blame bad luck on being a "girls just don't get me raaar" rant. In fact, it's the very reason i hold such values so emphatically that makes me appealing to them, and i know this. I would encourage others to just be comfortable with themselves and don't try too hard. I haven't read many "i'm a romantic" posts, but i suppose, as the internet would say, should 'lurk moar.'

I can accurately describe myself as many things, but romantic isn't one of them (had to destroy that part of me once I became a realist). So I'm putting more value on lust, since I consider it merely a temptation, like chocolate and pyromania.
