I only like lyrics in video game music when it doesn't mean anything (omnious latin chanting and the like). In fact I dislike lyrics in the vastt majority of songs, video game or not.

Adding lyrics to video game song remix should be a crime (I'm looking at you OCremix... >.>).

Sometimes its good, there are a few good games with decent lyrical music:
All of which are Japanese, huh...
EDIT: And come to think of it, somewhat cheesy...

The only good one is the boss theme from Blue Dragon, and that easily qualifies as 'so bad it's good'.

Red Dead Redemption.

And the expansion, Undead Nightmare:

Although they weren't composed for the game, they still show up during gameplay. That counts, right?

I'll simply say this one game and end my argument there

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. That song is more badass than Chuck Norris' entire fist

If it fits the game (such as portal's end song, or chanting in Dragon Age).

It doesn't matter if the song is good and fits the game. But if you don't have any lyrics, you can't fuck them up.

If they are like the Persona 3/4's battle themes where it's not really obnoxious, the go right ahead.

Depends on the song,
Depends on the scene,
Depends on the Game

There are plenty of songs in games that have lyrics and are thoroughly awesome, I dont think I've heard a song that had lyrics that objectivly sucks but there are some song that (if they had lyrics) would be tottaly ruined.

Just because you can't understand them doesn't mean they don't mean anything, though sometimes composers do just put ransom words in songs that was a legitimate songwriting style in Latin songs back then.

Edit: would have to partially agree with you on the last point though.
Adding lyrics to songs that don't need them rarely works and with the exception of the original author should only be attempted in parody.

I prefer the PAL version of Philistine even with the autotuning. The original version is more bland musically and the singer has too much trouble holding a tune, which I guess is why they had to autotune it for the remix. I still prefer Pleather for Breakfast from the original.

Yeah, I think that more games should have songs as background music instead of only being instrumental. Nothing wrong with instrumentals exactly but I like listening to singers.

Awesome song, but my personal favourite remains Otherworld - Final fantasy X http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXDxYIWAT7Y

I'd like to see more of it. It adds something. Just makes me think of the chills I got from playing Devil May Cry 4. I also liked the latin in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, that it translated at the end.

I usually don't mind it and sometimes I like it!

Example: 115-Elena Siegman... It's a great song
This song is on Black Ops, although it is hidden... does that still count?

The only good video game song with lyrics I've heard is Baba Yetu, and that's cuz it's used more like another part of the orchestra. I prefer an orchestral soundtrack, like Halo's for example. Video game music is awesome!
