I've heard that a lot, but I'm tempted to say that is a Myth since I have never seen an example as to why they are better for Graphic Design. Care to explain why?

I don't really know much about them, they seem to be a useful business machine that turned into a fashion item like the ipod.

Seems you pay a lot of money for what you get in a mac compared to a PC tho, and as a gamer, I'm not moving from PC any time soon.

Allow me...

As a Graphic Design major at school, I've heard this idea thrown around a lot, and a few years ago it was true. From a graphical and interface, and hardware/software standpoint, the Mac and it's OS was easier and much better to use for a graphic artist. Now a days they are still better for a graphic designer, but not because they are superior, but because they are the industry standard. Nearly everything can be done on a PC for graphic design these days if you have the right software and hardware, (Mainly memory, as Windows tends to take worlds more than OSX does, which bogs the machine down for a designer) configuration to allow for it, however a lot of people in the business still use Macs, and it would be tough to make them all either change over, or use both suddenly.

I bought my Mac for this reason, but I have a funny feeling that by the time I get out of school and into my career, I'm going to see more and more companies using both platforms, and a preference for one will fade away...

I'm typing on an iMac right now...so far, so good. I do want to bootcamp Windows on it, if only so I can play my old PC games on them.

I bootcamped windows onto mine but I rarely use it.... most of the gaming I do is on a 360. Its a macbook pro- not sure if that makes a difference. I find myself frustrated when dealing with PC's now- like its hiding something from me.

Macs look nice and are creative...to me thats all they have over windows, my friends have Mac's but I prefer my big black powerhouse of a windows computor because it hase twice as much power (or really close to it) for less then the Mac costs. and It can run all my computor games.

A friend showed me his Macbook once, well I took the liberty to showing myself...not really amazed. It was different but I still don't like Apple or most of their products. Oh and Steve Jobs hates games.

I've grown up on Macintoshes because they run Logic, which my dad uses for work (so he'd always take his old work computers home when they were nice and obsolete). They're pretty sweet once you get used to the interface. A 3-year-old Macintosh will run exactly as crappy-like as it did when you first got it, whereas, a Windows that was fantastic when you bought it will eventually accumulate so many viruses that it's impossible to use. And we just bought a fantastic Macintosh desktop, so we'll be curious to see how good it is in three years or so. :D

I have a MacBook pro, Installed VM Fusionware 2, Now I run Windows and Mac at the same time.

I don't understand when people say they have had terrible lag on their macbooks. I find them really fast to respond to anything. As long as I don't have to use safari I'm good. Firefox, MSN, Microsoft office 2008 for mac lawl.

Overall I think they're good. Need to be easier to get programs off the internet though.

Mac, A specialized system using the software to a very efficient use to the hardware, ish. Now, most certainly an elitist concept that is only as efficient as the user. Oh come on,im a pc user, and mac may have been an awesome thing thing in the 80's (yes) and 90's (sort-a) but now, just a license hogging book pushing mo-fo that is stuck in a perpetual void of pleasing the licensee's and to a degree the user.

An old concept that has meet its prime. i look forward to its continuation and prgress however; I predict a neutrality to it's PC counterpart. Mac needs to grow up or prove its strengths.

A nice outfit and being a young hottie hunk on TV does not constitute a good system. take for exaple ITunes. Lame. Give me two panes, one for my library, and one for my Ipod (or Iphone or whatever its connected to)
Allow me to drag and drop back and forth to perfection, and a superior manager I will brag apon.

Not happened yet and we're at 8.1. Lame.

Moving forward. PC aka microsoft (and in some free cases linux), strives to listen to the user and adjust accordingly. woot. Apple? move faster, and get over yourselves.

Thank you. That is all.

Ok, mabey not ALL, by the way, Pc and MAC pretty well share the same architecture. Who will discover the best route from A to B? Dont matter. my original point still stands. Move faster (with givin hardware), Grow up, or get over yourselves wichever mattered most.

PS im intoxicated, beat me at will :) Woot.

I don't hate Macs, but I could never see myself owning one. I fall into that "I don't care" category.

I made up a food chain of OSes:

Solaris<AppleMac<Macintosh(non-apple)<Windows Vista<MorphOS<Windows XP<Linux<AmigaOS

Solaris being the bottom. This is my opinion, and I said Macs needed compatibility because they do.

I have a mac, and I love it. It's great not having to wrestle with your computer, and Boot Camp is more than capable of running all the games I want to play. Anybody who really hates them clearly hates a small subset of the mac user population rather than the computers themselves, unless they're just terribly misinformed about the systems.

There are valid criticisms of the Mac platform, but no more so than there are for Windows or Linux. Each of them caters to a different demographic, and OS X is clearly the right operating system for me.

This is one that I don't get. How does Steve Jobs hate games? Has he ever said anything like that? I severely doubt it, based on his design philosophies for the operating systems. I suspect that you're referring to the limited size of the OS X video game library, which is due to Windows' monopoly over DirectX, not anything Apple does. Why would Apple willingly make their system incompatible with such a massive audience?

Macs are insecure , over priced and worst of all sometimes you find that stuck up mac user that thinks he's better then everyone else.

Pwn2own hacking contest.

In the end though, it all comes down to what you need or prefer it for.
I have to use vista cause I want to play DX10 games.
But I usaly run Linux Ubuntu when I'm not gaming, because I prefer the interface and the complete control I have over it, also I don't like programing under vista, not sure why.

so these arguments are futile, but I will agree more games should be made to be cross platform, so gamers aren't tied to one money grabbing, throat slitting, properitary monopoly...guess who I'm talking about.

I dont like them. They dont crash as much as windows and have some more advanced tools like iTunes and iMovie, but the options and interface and stuff are unfriendly in every way. They dont use universal computer jargons too often (like when selecting a file, you click "choose" instead of an "ok" button). Also, cant they evolve to a mouse with two buttons?

Also, I dont like how most people that I see in the apple store look like they have to make a "statement". They are like "the man" trying to keep the PC guys down. They are friendly and I doubt any of them think like that, but that's the impression the "Mac vs PC" commercials give me.

However, Macs are good if you just plan to do simple things like edit photos or movies with them, but you cant trick them out or get too many programs like with PCs, though I've been told that they are getting much more third-party support now.

A statement about mac stability.
Apple controls all the hardware, Majority of the software that you will use.
There are almost no upgrades available to Mac's and no modding community.

Windows would be just as stable, but Microsoft has to account for the hundreds of thousands of configurations there are. Also alot of companies put out bad drivers which is a big cause for it all, and anti-virus software is a major one too (seen it do some weird things)

Linux has a similar problem to Windows but because it's open source and people can change it to work with almost everything they by-pass alot of Windows issues, along with viruses.

I love BSD Linux.

I especially love it when it has a mac logo on it and has half the features stripped out and is somehow sold for twice the price of the dogshit that microsoft makes.
