Overrated by Mac lovers, underrated by PC users. Macs are not as good for gaming (which is why the commercial should switch the guys) but it is good for doing stuff on. At school I use Macs for my computer art class, while normally I use PC. Macs seem better suited as laptops though, since they are monolithic and laptops are that way normally too. I dont do much with computer parts, but I likely will soon once I get deeper into my computer studies.

macs are great recommendations for relatives who dont know the first thing about computer security. you dont get any calls about how to fix the suddenly slow computer w/ porn pop-ups every time they turn it on.

not so great for games though. Unless all you play is WoW & CoH/CoV

I dont like them. They dont crash as much as windows and have some more advanced tools like iTunes and iMovie, but the options and interface and stuff are unfriendly in every way. They dont use universal computer jargons too often (like when selecting a file, you click "choose" instead of an "ok" button). Also, cant they evolve to a mouse with two buttons?

Also, I dont like how most people that I see in the apple store look like they have to make a "statement". They are like "the man" trying to keep the PC guys down. They are friendly and I doubt any of them think like that, but that's the impression the "Mac vs PC" commercials give me.

However, Macs are good if you just plan to do simple things like edit photos or movies with them, but you cant trick them out or get too many programs like with PCs, though I've been told that they are getting much more third-party support now.
Honestly, I really don't think Windows crash very often. I run XP and Vista 64 and it's been some time since I had a crash. And when it crashes it's usually my fault. People should learn to accept that most often it's their own fault that a computer crashes.

And how do you think iTunes is an advanced tool? It's a subpar piece of software in my eyes. I have no idea about iMovie but the name at least sucks ass.

And more general I'd like to address the "I run bootcamp so Mac rules" argument. I find that very silly. Any platform requiring you to run an entire alternative OS to do something (gaming or otherwise) is flawed deeply.

I hate using Macs because I don't know what I'm doing half the time, but what I really detest are Mac snobs, those people who insist Macs are sooooo much better than PCs. These are the same people who say things like 'I don't really watch television' and 'Oh, you've got to go organic'.

I don't think that there's anything intrinsically wrong with Macs, though I don't feel that they're at all intuitive. What makes me hate them though is the superiority complex that the company and many users have.

I think Windows is better, and people who think they are superior because they use Macs annoy me, but I don't mind Macs all that much. Although they technically ARE PCs, no matter how much they don't admit it.
PC stands for personal computer. As in, you can personalise them.

Ever tried to upgrade a mac?

Macs are certified Unix with a pretty UI. If you need to do anything with a comprehensive command-line interface but can't be bothered with the driver issues you get in Linux use a Mac, if you want to play games use Windows.

Yes I have :)

That asside: In the PPC days the Mac was a stable power house of a computer. No crashes, no problems. If you were a designer (graphic, audio, video) there was really only that choice. But since then Macs have gotten worse and Win PC's better. It's open ground now. I hate the Mac simply because it can't seem too choose what it wants to be, and pretends it's still as good as back then.

From a designers stand point there is no reason to not use a PC or a Mac. Most software is available for both. For the audio people who NEED to use Logic tough luck, have fun with your mac. I did for the first couple years. At the moment I'm running windows under boot camp, and although it works great and plays MOST games, it still feels like a hack. I've been using Macs for years but my next PC will be a Winbox. I can't stand the new elitist mac users with no clue. I don't need my computer to be a god damn fashion statement.

It's a fucking computer. You know what it does? It computes things. I don't care for Mac because I'm a PC gamer, but I don't think they're inferior.

The people who use them, as pointed out, however, can often be politely described as "fucking dicks" and unpolitely be described as "people who won't stop vomiting Mac commercials all over everyone."

I like Macs because you can't use them.

Really, maybe it's just because I'm so use to Windows, but I find the Mac system confusing and it drives me into an impotent rage.

I love my retro iMac G4 just as much as I love my Windows Vista PC and Laptop. They all do the jobs I need them for :)

I'm a technological rainbow as i use windows, leopard and ubuntu across two different computers (gaming pc with xp and a macbook with leopard and ubuntu). Why pick one side and ignore its weaknesses while calling the sides inferior like a common fanboy when you can easily use all of them without suffering from their individual weaknesses.

i think macs are stupid. its all about design, not power. people buy them coz theyr lighter, and that is just absolutely brainless done. i got a 17 inch acer extensa 7620g that i bought october last year. it has thrice the power (in harddisk and ram) of a macbook. it weights 3.5kg, but i dont care bout it.

macs are made for being light and weak, while mine is heavier and much more powerful.

They're probably decent machines, but also overpriced and overhyped, like with all Apple products. Hence why I also own a Creative Zen instead of an iPod. Was looking at a new mp3-player, and the iPod was a whole 40 euro's more expensive with just as much memory as the Zen. Easy choice for me then. I also despise the fashion around Apple products.

Macs have their place, I'm just not sure where it is;)
I am a PC gamer at heart though and that is my primary usage for a computer, so they need more compatibility.

The biggest reason I will never buy one though (If the next gen mac is compatible with everything) is the way almost all mac users are so far up themselves they need a periscope too see. I know this is a gross generalization but there are exceptions.

I despise them. They're aesthetically butt-ugly, they do far less than what my PC can do yet cost oodles more, and the people who proselytize them are such utter assholes that I want to squirt the blood of Ebola victims up their asses with a rusty metal turkey baster. Yeah. Chew on that mental image.

I could just be like "OK, there's a different product that appeals to a different audience" and move on with my life, but Mac people have a habit of sending me into a homicidal rage, perhaps because I used to work in sales for Dell (favorite sales pitch: "only way you're gonna do it cheaper is to build it yourself, and who wants to do that?" Non-geeks loved it and geeks don't buy pre-built) and got in a verbal sparring match with one of those dicks on an almost daily basis.

Ugh. I wrote a decent-length reply and it vanished. In summary: they each have good and bad points and anyone who says one is categorically better than the other is wrong.

It's like people who say "I don't like cats" or "I don't like dogs": in most cases, these people have never spent any extended amount of time with a cat/dog (or only with one cat/dog who happened to be nasty), and when they give it a try they realise they were just being closed-minded.
