Matyrdom in my case has killed me around 5 times in 5 days of play time. What it does do however is get me killed by forcing me to sprint straight away from it into the open and into bullets.

It is totally fair and rewards many cocky players who walk up and knife snipers who are effectivly blind. I usually find perks that augment my main weapon do much more good and as such will not complain about a perk which will help 1 in 10 spawns.

Martyrdom is one of the reasons I dont play COD4 multiplayer much. I die far too often to it & after a while it just gets boring

Anyone find it amusing that when your actually cooking a grenade and you get killed, it doesn't drop on the ground...

So the player whose actually doing something... cooking a grenade, is rewarding with nothing, but a player that does absolutely nothing whose just standing there being retarded enough to get shot in the back of the face is possibly rewarded with a kill, because they use martyrdom.

Martyrdom makes no sense as it is, they should make it like last stand, where the player actually has to aim the grenade or just get rid of it.

I don't have too much of a problem with a fourth grenade appearing, but I would like them not to drop a grenade if they have been head shot or blown up, like with last stand, to reward good kills and to make sure that explosions do not beget explosions, creating a stupid amount of chaos.

Admittedly martyrdom is a way of the game - and the player you just killed - telling you that you just died in great big shiny red letters. But give it at least this, the only reason I think it should be allowed is for beggining players, so that after they fail to get that headshot because of the bastard behind them that just knifed them, they can have the smug satisfaction afterward of saying ha ha that's what you get for knifing me... Although to be honest I haven't used martyrdom since I realised that it sucks and you'd probably get more kills using steady aim or deep impact... plus last stand with a deagle rocks!

I use it, and I don't mind getting killed by it. I don't care much for my score. And I think that its fair. I mean, is it such a big deal anyway?

I gotta agree with Jakub though, there'd be a lot less grenades flying around... Which will be especially helpful in that fucking Shipment map. >_<

...

I still love that map though... :D

Martydom mostly kills me by forcing me to run out in the open and get shot. I think it should be changed so that you cannot use it if you used all your grenades. Also you shouldent be allowed to use it if you have the 3x Frags perk.

Martyrdom borders on breaking a game already pushed to the limit by grenade spamming. It rewards players who simply charge the enemy and get themselves killed in the hope their final grenade will actually kill someone. Yes Martyrdom can be avoided but not if everyone in the match is using it. Martyrdom discourages CQB tactics which is something I rely on most of the time.

I'm amazed at how much people whine about everything in CoD4.
The M16 is overpowered, Juggy is for noobs, Claymores are cheap, the list goes on.
CoD4 also has the most trash talking I have ever encountered in a multiplayer game and I've been playing them online for more than 10 years.

I have one class with it, it's my up close and dirty class.
It's annoying when you get killed with it but like anything else in the game you learn how to work around it.
So with Martyrdom don't hang around dead bodies, simple as that.

Yeah, Martyrdom is extremely cheap. It's an easy way for people who are bad at the game to pad their kills. And Zemalac, I doubt you only get killed 10% of the time. I'm really bad at the game, and even I refuse to use Martyrdom. I believe it is just plain stupid.
HOW TO KILL SOMEONE WHO HAS MARTYR: Knife to the back, sprint in the direction you were going for one/two seconds, and then carry on with what you were doing as the grenade detonates at a safe distance. Or snipe them, or just gun them down at a reasonable range. It only kills you if you aren't careful.

Seriously, I really only use martyr by accident. I like the grenadier class' rifle, and that class happens to come with a convinient way of punishing the overly cocky and the careless. I don't have any personalized classes with it (though this is mostly because I don't actually own the game and play it at a friend's house).

If you're smart enough you will sprint out of the way before it goes off-martydom isn;t a gaurenteed kill

I only have one class with martydom, its my shotgun class and I only use that class on wetworks and shipment, both cases it makes no difference as the 2 maps are fulled with random nades anyway, and even then I REARELY use that class. its not unfair its jsut a noob perk that I admitedly use (but I'm not a noob)

It's fair, but hella annoying.

70% of the time i'm either now where near it, or the grenade icon wasn't even on my screen and i die.

But it is fair, and don't tell me that you wouldn't be satisfied that you just got killed and on the kill cam you see a "+10" sign.

And then there are the times when you die when cooking a grenade, double martydom?

I think that its fair. Get mad at me for saying this, but it is misrepresentative to call an intended game mode unfair. And whoever said it was a legitimate strategy, I completely agree. Do you get mad at cs players that are good with an awp? Probably. Do you get mad at DOD:S players who are rediculous with the Kar? Probably? Do you get mad at other Halo players who mastered the use of ghosts? Probably. Do you get mad at the RDX users in Battlefield 2142? Probably. But realize that those are all ways to win the game.
The point of the game in TDM, and all other modes for that matter, is to get kills. Any legal mode that accomplishes that end is perfectly fair. Marytyrdom is efficient. If you want to complain about that, I think you have to look at gaming through its intended lens.
Obviously aimbotting, which accomplishes this, is unfair. But that was not an intended game feature. The fact that COD4 multiplayer shines so much is a testament to the developers working hard to solve balance issues. So should we question Infinity Ward's judgement? I hope not.

Call of Duty 4's multiplayer has several glaring problems other than martyrdom, but it too is a problem.

If only the multiplayer was as good as the singleplayer.

Martyrdom doesn't unballance the game too much, if it did everyone and their mother would be using it. I know it pisses hard core player off when they die to some noob just becuase they blundered on to their martyerdom grenade, but death happens especialy in a game like call of duty. Remember your worth as a person is not determined by your kill to death ratio.

There are a lot of people here saying "just run away from it!". That's all well and good but more often than not some poor unfortunate soul will stumble onto it and be killed for moving from a spot. This is why it's stupid, and to repeat what other people have said it really does need to be removed from people with headshots etc. "O I just took a bullet to the head, my entire nervous system has just instantaneously shut down, but never fear I still have time and ability to remove this final grenade from my belt (even though I've thrown all three at the very start") pull the pin and drop it at my feet". Same with the person who has just been torn apart from an enourmous explosion. It's silly and noobish. I think the best way to go would be to ammend the above problems, and then remove the option to use the perk once you reach a level of about 25 (first time of course) and to have it avalable from the start. Phew that was long! Off to study.

Martyrdom is not an issue. 99% of the time you're killing people at a distance. Get a knife kill? You can hear the grenades drop. Sprint away.

It's not an issue at all.

I'm not sure Infinity Ward ever meant to have completely balanced weapons and perks. Look at Eavesdrop- it's a novelty. It's as if they want us to make a similar decision to the kind we make in an RPG, where there are worse weapons and better ones; we have to find the better ones.

Here's your choice:

A: Stay and get killed by martydom
B: Sprint into the open and get shot by two snipers.
