First, no there isn't news, this is pure speculation and all circumstantial evidence. Sorry to get your hopes up.

I have been re-playing Kingdom Hearts 2 of late, and got thinking about how Disney bought out Marvel Comics, wouldn't it be weird if Marvel Characters managed to slip into Kingdom Hearts somewhere? Disney is publishing the Avengers so in a loose sense the Marvel characters are now in the Disney menagerie.

So just out of curiosity, what do you guys here at The Escapist Forum think about the possibility?

A "Marvel Universe" in Kingdom Hearts 3 would be cool, it would be quite jarring jumping from there to something like The Little Mermaid.

Yeah, most of Marvel doesn't fit the tone of Kingdom Hearts. Especially not characters like Wolverine or Deadpool.

I think we crossed the "jarring" line with Pirates of the Carribean in Kingdom Hearts 2.

I think It could work well. Obviously, some of the more "out there" parts of the Marvel Universe will probably not make it in there, but I see no reason why Sora and Spider-Man shouldn't be able to team up and beat down Heartless/Nobodies/Unversed/Whatever-Nomura-pulls-out-of-his-ass-next together. It could be pretty cool.

Well, it wont just be Sora this time around, I mean we all know that Riku is playable in KH:3D. And even then there are rumors that Ven, Terra, and Aqua are going to show up in KH:3.

Although I have a gut feeling that one of the jokes that would show up is that the seven currently active Keyblade Weilders(The Birth by Sleep Trio, and Sora, Riku, Kari, and Mickey) are actually kinda normal compared to Thor, or even the Hulk.

Oh and the new monsters are the Dream Eaters, apparently they either cause nightmares or eat nightmares...
Why is it that these are more normal than the Unversed in concept?

Oh and its probably more likely that the Avengers would be the basis for anything like this, seeing how its the most recent movie that is widely known, then again KH Players and Marvel fans have a significant amount of overlap.

I just don't know. I'm tempted to say no, but it's been so long since we've had a "proper" KH game I've really got no sense of where Tetsuya Nomura's head is these days.

The one thing I could see being a problem is, apart from the existence of superheroes, the locations and times of the Marvel universe are essentially planet Earth in the present. Pirates of the Caribbean was "Earth," but it was way in the past and stylized enough to not feel terrestrial. And the same can be said of the Tarzan world. I just don't see Square wanting to make present day New York City for a Kingdom Hearts game. It would lack the lushness and mystery of all the other worlds.

I think we are more likely to see a High School Musical or a Air/Snow/Spooky/Santa/Space Buddies themed level than Marvel to be honest.

It's all about Pattern Recognition.

All of the characters so far(Barring the OCs to the universe: IE Sora, Kairi, Riku, Ansem, ETC.) have been either established Disney characters or established Squaresoft characters.

Leaving the Squaresoft angle aside, the Disney characters are all established characters that came FROM Disney works specifically. Granted, with characters like Alice from Alice in Wonderland, the original character was not a disney character, having been written by Lewis Carroll, But the character in the game is the established version of Alice from the disney animated version of the movie. The same with Ariel, Belle, Aladdin, Peter Pan, etc.

Marvel isn't a "Disney" work, it's a Marvel work, Produced by Disney.

That's why I think they won't show up.

Although the idea of seeing a heartless version of The Incredible Hulk is one that is amazing.

Also, I totally agree, Bring in the Gargoyles! Maybe the Mighty Ducks animated series too!

Or we could just... "Let's Get DANGEROUS."

I'm still waiting for Kingdom Hearts to introduce the Gargoyles. Let me fly with Goliath and Angela, dangit.
I am fully in support of this idea. Gargoyles was one of the best things the Disney Channel ever put out in it's lifetime and I guess they thought it was an accident and got rid of it.

Back on topic: Hell yes, I want Marvel characters in Kingdom Hearts! I think that Spiderman and Dr Strange would be perfect partners for Sora and characters like Galactus and Dormammu fit the larger than life profile of bosses that I expect from Kingdom Hearts.

Also, why haven't we had any Pixar worlds in Kingdom Hearts. If Buzz Lightyear ever becomes a party member then I will never begrudge the long wait for Kingdom Hearts III again.

Great, give me nightmares, you thought the atlanica levels where bad. That aside, it would be cool to swing around new york with spider man, and beat a heartless green goblin. But it probably won't happen.

Yes. Yes. Yes. A thousand times Yes. It would be an awesome twist to see that The Heartless were an unseen after-effect caused by the Infinity Wars or some other major Marvel event. Also: Galactus as a boss would be far more exciting (in my eyes) than a third Sephiroth fight. The only problem I see is that the Marvel Universe is extremely huge so picking a single ally would be very difficult (in terms of pissing off fans). I also don't see Kingdom Hearts 3 expanding the universe to include New York: Spider-Man, New York: Fantastic Four, New York: Avengers etc. Some of the areas could get really redundant when the only variable is who you get to play with.

This too...A Toy Story and/or Monster's Inc. world would be a great addition to Kingdom Hearts and Pixar in general are long overdue in the KH world. Honestly though, I just don't want to see Sephiroth as the hidden boss for a third time...it got redundant in KH2.

Yeah, I imagine that the Disney Channel stopped, realized:
"Wait a minute! This isn't the usual deluge of kiddie-shit we normally churn out! KILL IT! KILL IT! WE CAN'T RAISE THE BAR! If we do that people might actually have expectations for our awful shows! We'll go over-budget! THINK OF THE PROFIT MARGINS!"

I completely lost interest in Kingdom Hearts after playing a bit of the second game; where the plot (and subsequently the tone) just goes entirely off the rails in an attempt to milk the franchise for as long as humanly possible.
Though I admit, seeing the Gargoyles would at least pique my interest a bit.

Tron and Pirates of the Caribbean don't really look like other Dysney movies, but they managed to make it work.

Considering the idea of Disney and Final Fantasy characters paling about in a game sound like a terrible idea in the first place, I see no reason why this can't work.

I don't think it will happen. The marvel universe is way to convoluted to squeeze into one world. The only thing that might happen, is if spiderman was one of the summons in the next game

Man, the heartless wouldn't want to go anywhere near that place.

Or alternatively, it would have tons and tons of heartless.

I'd enjoy it, But i don't think it should be a collective one marvel world. Take a few select characters and use a world for them or put them in the colliseum as a nice added feature.

Thor in Midgard world would be great! I don't want to see a modern day kingdom hearts world though, i agree with one of the commenters here who said it would kill the mystery of the world.

Deadpool could work! Slap him in a very random world and have him make forth wall jokes about how he can't believe he got dragged into the game.
