I would like to play Mass Effect with a friend, but in co-op and not in an MMO. If you turn it into a MMMO it will lose most of its charm that it has in multiplayer. If you just create a co-op campaign it will still be able to retain some of the charm.

Hell no. Let them ruin the already ruined Star Wars franchise with a potential flop MMO. Not Mass Effect. Mass Effect 3 won't be the last game set in that universe, but I'm hoping future games will be competitive FPSes and the like, not an MMO.
Competitive FPSes? No, no, a thousand times no. That's the absolute last thing I want to see done to Mass Effect. It's supposed to be an RPG series, dammit, stop agitating for Bioware to make it more of a shooter than it already is. You shooter fans have your Halo, Call of Doody, etc etc. Leave us RPG fans one bloody sci-fi RPG FFS.
Look, I like Mass Effect, but at this point the series is pretty much a TPS, making it a FPS wouldn't cost them anything and wouldn't take anything from the game anyway. Let's face it - Fallout was more of a RPG than ME2. That said - can't wait for ME3.

As for MMO - sure it can work, in fact I bet it would be awesome, if done correctly. As long as they realize that they are making a game for a small audience and not a WoW killer and create the game accordingly.

To the idea of a Mass Effect MMO game, I say:

My reasoning: MMO games are gross and really not for me. I dislike them intensely.

Let's think about-NO!

Bioware makes single player games that center around good writing

I just hope they don't loose too much money on their ridiculous Star Wars game

Yeah, it's true Fallout was more of an RPG than Mass Effect 2. That said, the original Mass Effect was an RPG, and Bioware are known for RPGs. I don't want to encourage them to venture further away from their RPG roots, there are plenty of shitty shooters out there and few enough RPGs. Almost no sci fi RPGs, other than Fallout and I'm really not interested in the whole post-apocalyptic thing anyway. We don't need yet another company making shooters. If Bioware go that direction, I can see their sales dropping despite the larger market for shooters than RPGs. This is because there's already a hell of a lot of people making shooters and a lot of Bioware's core audience aren't going to stick with them if they're no longer producing RPGs that are recognisably RPGs.
As for turning ME into a FPS not taking anything away? I disagree. It would push the series further into shooter hell.

I wish the games had multiplayer campaign like all the other BioWare games. But not an MMO

Having everyone be a Spectre is damn retarded. Not only would it limit the available playable races, but you run into the Playable Jedi dilemma: When Everyone Is A Rare Super Badass, No One Is.

Spectres are supposed to be the Elite. The BEST OF THE BEST, Shaft in a space suit. Over the course of the past two games, Shepard has encountered THREE other Spectres; one dies and two were villains. They're agents, not an army -one never gets the impression that there's ten billion of them running around in the galaxy.

Have them be a Prestige Class. If you've got a military background and massive reputation with the Citadel, allow the player to undergo a series of dangerous missions mid- to late-game and EARN Spectre status.
I'm not gonna lie, that sounds pretty good. Maybe we could have things like Asari Justicars or those Legion of Seven(?) guys the Salarians had or a leader of your own tribe if your a krogan. And instead of guilds, we have fleets or crews. Hm? I like the way you think, plz understand that I'm not patronizing you this is actually a pretty good idea.

Very bad idea, Mass Effect only worked because it was a singleplayer game anyway.
Anyways, here is a few of the major reasons.

1, Where the hell would you set it specifically?

Agayek said:
The only way an Mass Effect MMO would work is if it was set in a different timeframe from the ME trilogy. I'm thinking either the Krogan Uprising or post-ME3 would be the ideal settings. Krogan Uprising because it's one of the best civil war elements in any game ever. I'd like to see people able to choose from any of a number of different factions, typically separated by species, all either working with or against each other and trying to survive the Krogan Horde.

Post-Reapers would also be a fairly cool setting for it, as you could help the galaxy rebuild. I could definitely see there being a lot of potential for fighting against bands of pirates or rogue Geth or somesuch.
Pretty much this.
Mass Effect doesn't really have any events already in its history which would be good for an MMO. While the Krogan Uprising would be a good place for it noone would want to play a game that doesn't focus on humans. Putting it in the First Contact War wouldn't make any sense as it was pretty much a couple largish decisive battles.
An entirely new setting would be needed, however it would still be difficult to do within the confines of Mass Effect, the reasons for which I'd rather not elaborate on at the moment.

2, Some sort of story driven MMO would not work
People don't play MMO's for some story, they are Massively Multiplayer Online games for a reason.
All that Bioware games really have going for them are story and characters, which while very awesome simply have no place in a multiplayer game.

3, Combat would need to be redone. Completely.
Mass Effect's combat consists of entering a room, hiding behind a wall, and shooting bad dudes as they enter the room.
If the game is going to revolve around killing things at least make it interesting.

4, Everyone is a Spectre?

Alright,a Fallout mmo made sense because all the Fallouts had a general story Mass Effect does not,the entire story revolves around Shepard and how he/she saves the world,an MMO wouldn't make sense for it

Guild Wars has 6 million players and no subscription system set up
Guild wars doesnt have anywhere near 6 million players, they have 6 million units sold of their game and all 3 expansions. So probably ~2-3 million players absolute max, and by 'players' i mean someone that has played the game atleast once.

Macros make everything better, thank you.

And yeah, no, not really.

Mass Effect is a pretty good SPRPG and I'm fine with that. To transpose genres so wildly wouldn't necessarily make a better or even equal quality game.

I'm not saying I wouldn't necessarily enjoy it, just that it's not a cut-and-dry GOOD GAME FELLAZ that people seem to think.

Hey man, I hate today's standardized shooter more than anyone, but Bioware has already said that there will be spin-offs set in the Mass Effect universe, so a competitive shooter seems highly likely. We can only hope that they make it fun. Class-based, a large variety of abilities/weapons, and jetpacks! Mmm...jetpacks.
Then it'll just be another shooter trading on the Mass Effect name. Bioware aren't shooter devs, they are RPG devs. I don't want to see them wasting time and talent they could be putting to better use in another RPG, especially one in the Mass Effect universe. We don't see that many RPGs these days (although this year looks like it'll be an exception to that! Yay for 2011!) and we already have more than enough shooters.

I want to see Bioware stick to their core strengths, and as a PC-only RPG gamer who does not like shooters for the most part I'm already feeling a bit abandoned by the games industry. I don't want to see any moves that'll further cut down the selection of games I have to choose from.

And instead of guilds, we have fleets or crews.
Yeeeeeessss.

Your Guild House would be a spaceship. It wouldn't need a physical location on the "game map" because it's out in freaking space somewhere. Need a bigger Guild house? Buy a bigger ship. And instead of just being a guild, you could be a mecenary band, or a merchant's combine, or what-have you.

And like Hectix777 said, you could have all kinds of Prestige Classes for different races. Spectres, Justicars, Battlemasters, whatever the hell group Mordin belonged to.

And hello to you too Mr. I-will-never-play-any-other-MMO-than-WoW-because-I'm-incredibly-close-minded-and-hate-attempts-of-making-a-better-one-that-would-not-force-me-to-pay-a-15$-monthly-sub-fee-and-keep-me-from-playing-with-total-meatheads-or-rasict/homophobic-13-year-olds-and-occasional-pedo.

Step off Guild Wars boy. Face it WoW, like empires before it, is done. Fini, done, end, stick a fork in it Blizzards cash cow is done. Games like Guild Wars 2 and Rift and TOR are coming( TOR having the largest following of any of them, notplayong), all having major innovations and better graphics. Guild Wars 2 is probably the biggest attempt an MMO developer has ever made at innovation. What's WoW done? I cant make a joke about that, because it hasn't done anything remarkable. In fact it's become the bane of our culture and the ultimate stereotype of shame.

I remember that one! It was the STG, Special Tasks Group. They were equal to Rangers in my eyes because they were used for raids and sabotage(Genophage counts as sabotage)
