Making regular well-loved games into MMOs is a lot like drowning kittens: You CAN do it but that doesn't mean you SHOULD do it, and just because there might be a target audience for it doesn't imply that it's a good idea. And even if you do it right and make no mistakes, wouldn't it have been better if you didn't do it at all? ;)

Now I loved Mass Effect, and am eagerly looking forward to the sequel, but I just don't see an MMOG working. Not because it wouldn't be a great game in its own right (I suspect it would), but because if Bioware made it they'd essentially be competing with themselves against The Old Republic.
If it weren't for that, I actually think it would be a pretty good idea.

I personally liked the combat, though I'd have liked to see a lot more abilities too.
Why does that make it a bad thing? BioWare wins no matter which game you choose. (perhaps you'll choose both)

I'm a little torn. I don't play enough MMOs, but as far as I see it would not be Mass Effect. It would inevitably become WoW in space, and that would defy the point. Besides as the point in Mass Effect is to be the ONLY ONE etc then having more ONLY ONEs would break the story of the game if nothing else.

Then again, it would be cool to be able to gather massive groups of SPECTREs together and glomp villains with the sheer power of your awesome, or gather Salarian intelligence teams in order to hold lines in far off planets (you know it's true.)

Besides the obvious fact that developing two large scale MMO's at the same time would be inefficient and too heavy a burden on the company, the simple fact remains that games that rely on FPS mechanics, and/or use time pause queues, are not translated well into MMO's

since Mass Effect has BOTH, I wouldn't recommend they try

Wow, this is depressing. Most people voted for "PANCAKES!".
I dont think a Mass Effect MMO could be done. It just wouldnt work, Thats my opinion, anyway.

True, but it means both games will have a smaller playerbase, and part of MMOs is obviously people.
The genre would be the same, yes, but playstyle would be completely different. KotOR vs ME.

(M)ass effect MMO? Eeep, I cannot imaging the virtual things going on between the players, only to find their partner wasn't the same gender as them in reality...

I think a Mass Effect RTS would be better, I really don't care for MMO's though so I may be biased.

So long as it doesn't disrupt the release of single player Mass Effect games I couldn't care less if one is made.

AGH. NO!

I am tired of MMOs being made of things. No more! Leave the kids who play WoW to their thing and just stop making these kinds of games! >_<;

Think all of this whole thread is full with kids already. Yeah I voted for an Mass Effect MMO. It's Bioware property they choose what do with it.

The Mass Effect universe is a deep and rich one, and would work very, very well as an MMO.

I'd much rather see them developing that instead of a Mass Effect motion picture.

Who revives a 6-month dead thread? And how the hell did you find this? Why, oh why?

I forgot about this thread.

Newcomers can still post if they want to...

It won't be done since, like it's been mentioned, Bioware would be competing against themselves with what is essencially a Star Wars esc world anyway.
That's nonsense. How would they compete against each other?
1) SWTOR is an MMORPG while Mass Effect would have to be more like a MMOFPS with RPG elements (or something in that vain). SWTOR is based on point and click (icons), ME would have to be different and more action oriented (at least something like Tera).
2) SWTOR took almost 5 years to develop (Blizzard also needed 5 for WoW). Bioware would never start developing another MMO until they see how SWTOR does and until they have finished the third ME entry. This means we wouldn't see a Mass Effect MMO before 2017. SWTOR will have been around for quite some time then and the only similarity it would have with ME is that it's science fiction. NCSoft has currently three fantasy mmos up and running.

ME and SWTOR could be/ would have to be entirely different gameplay wise.

IMO a Mass Effect MMO would work just fine. The lore is there and that is actually all an MMO needs anyway. It would also not be in any real competition with Star Wars as the gameplay/ combat system would be quite different.

So why not do an MMO with the ME license?

I may or may not have voted pancakes.

Seriously though, the combat in Mass Effect isn't worthy of an MMO. It was pretty bland.
And WoWs, the most successful MMO of all time and possibly game in general, isn't?

Well, than don't play them. Nobody forces you. BTW, the average age of an MMO player is around 30, just so you know.

It's more in-depth than Mass Effect, that's for sure.

Clicking on something and waiting, yeah that's deep. At least in ME you have to aim.
