Does anyone else think KotOR was Mass Effects mother? Same developer, interestingly similar setting. BioWare has made their own Star Wars Universe! It's important to be new and innovative but how new and innovative WAS it?

KotOR was better then Mass Effect by a large margin.
The characters were better, the combat was more interesting, and the different abilities were cooler compared to the abilities in Mass Effect.

Most of Biowares games are incredibly similar. And I prefer ME to KOTOR, couldn't stand the latter.

KotOR was the best thing to come out of Star Wars since the original trilogy.

Mass Effect has such massive potential in terms of the universe that Bioware have created, that I hope it gets used post ME3. There's so much untapped plot potential.

I prefer Mass Effect, simply because, while I am a Star Wars fan, I'm not really familiar with that much of the expanded universe.

I pretty much know the Mass Effect universe inside out though, since I was there from the very first instance the universe appeared in ME 1.

I prefer KoToR. I have pretended to be a Jedi my entire life. A specter? not so much.

I really loved KotOR. The story was interesting as hell, and it's what really got me into lengthy Western RPGs, I only played JRPGs before (And I'm talking when I was in elementary school.)

Ohhh this is like chooseing your favorite son. I suppose Il go with the KotOR, over mass effect 1 & 2, but I pefer MAss effect over KotOR II. Obsidion made a good game, but not at the bioware standerd.

I loved KoTOR, it was just a superb story, and brilliant characters and interesting combat, not to say i didn't like ME i liked that but it was just a bit 'samey' the combat was so easy it got quite boring by the end especially in the second one.

Mass Effect. A big part is the universe. I like the ME universe a lot more than the Star Wars universe. Yeah, I know. Blasphemy.

I loved KotOR, but Mass Effect wins by virtue of being a more interesting setting. I've had enough of Tattooine, droids, Jedi and the Star Wars universe. I still like the original Trilogy, but I don't need any more than that.

Damn hard choice. Kotor was my favourite, and is still one of my favourite games. Kotor was, and probabaly still is (just about) the game I've replayed the most times (maybe even most hours as well); but Mass Effect is closing fast on both those counts.

Mass Effects, either and or both, are better than Kotor II, no doubt (interesting plot, more skills and Kreia, a fantastic character vs. WTF?! ending section). I think I go Mass Effect, and I'm not even sure why, I'll admit I am a Mass Effect fanboy (not a Bioware fanboy, I'm a bioware but not bioware fanboy. DAII was rushed and copy-paste at it's "best").

As much as I loved KOTOR, I liked Mass Effect even more. Combat in KOTOR was a bit meh, and I'd say characterization was about equal in each one (I didn't like KOTOR 2, but I'd say it had better characterization than ME or KOTOR). KOTOR's story was quite good, but while ME's story wasn't quite as well-told, it made up for it by being huge.

I felt KOTOR sort of ran out of gas near the end, while Mass Effect threw a ton of plot and an epic citadel mission at the end to keep it amazing all the way to the end.

I prefer Mass Effect. Its mostly due to the fact I don't care much for Star Wars RPGs and I also don't care much for D20 systems adapted for the PC.

KotOR was great, but it was always tainted by Star Wars universe stuff. Mass Effect nicely took all the best aspects of KotOR and got rid of the Star Wars. I love the Mass Effect universe - richly detailed, complex, and emotional (the Quarians are so sad!).

Of course, that's my opinion, and I'm not much of a Star Wars fan. **shrug** I prefer Farscape and Babylon 5.

KotoR by a decent margin for me.

The fact that we actually got to be our own Jedi was pretty damned cool at the time, not to mention HK-47, I mean, come on, how can you not love the meatbag assassin droid.

Mass Effect, I enjoyed the story and all, but Male Shep's voice just.. Gaaaaah, and since I'm not very good at FPSs in general, the combat wasn't really for me at all :p

And besides, more general familiarity with the Star Wars universe, so it's easier to approach.

On another note,

Who want's to help me solved the case, codenamed: EDNESEN (DUN, DUN, DUN!!!)

Kotor - it really has to be KOTOR, although ME was a really great game. The aforementioned HK-47
carries it all by himself really, although force lighting also helps :D

KoTOR= computer DnD with a starwars system.

Mass effect=More modern shooting perspective with hidden D20 system playing a small role

I'm a DnD nerd, so I loved KoTOR, but Mass Effect also won me over, hmm... *shrug*
