Does anyone else think KotOR was Mass Effects mother? Same developer, interestingly similar setting. BioWare has made their own Star Wars Universe! It's important to be new and innovative but how new and innovative WAS it?
I loved KotOR was awesome dont get me wrong but the ME universe i think is just a better place to play in and stuff. I love star wars but ME is just pure epic. Plus try as i might i cant get past the fact that KotOR graphics are heavily dated

While I thoroughly enjoyed KotOR, I'm a pretty rabid ME fanboy so the choice was obvious.

I really couldn't say which one is better because most of my experience is with Mass Effect. As much as I liked Knights of The Old Republic, I never got a chance to complete the game because I had such a crappy computer when it came out. And now I can't play it because my computer's hardware is too advanced and crashes the game every half hour.

I gave up on it a long time ago, after I exhausted all possible fixes I could find. And after someone spoiled the big reveal of who Revan actually was I stopped caring.

I like a more tactical RPG, one where the player's reflexes and skill have nothing to do with combat, like a pen and paper game. So I prefer KoTOR, especially a repaired KoTOR 2. That said, I prefer both Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines and System Shock 2 to the KoTOR games.

KOTOR was by far the Superior game because it wasn't nearly half as pretentious as Mass Effect.
It didn't try to pass itself off as serious Sci-Fi and then introduce MAGIC SCIENCE to explain away scientific inconsistencies. The characters were far more engaging and unlike in ME you were actually your character.
In Mass Effect it's Shepard who's the asshole or the goody-two shoes. In KOTOR it's you.

Mass Effect for me. KotOR was a great series, but...I don't know. Mass Effect felt a bit more...something.

Unless it's a Male Shepard. It's like someone ate his soul or something...Also, while I love the Jedi and just about anything about them, I HATE just about everything else in the Star Wars universe. When you've got a bunch of guys who tap into the energy of the universe (I love the more meditative aspects) and fight with beams of freaking plasma, blasters, smugglers and most of the planets seen seem incredibly dull by comparison.

KOTOR. its one of my favorite game, although I invested a lot of my recent time on MassEffect 2.

I am not much of starwars fan, so this is kinda saying a lot.

It'd be pretty cool if they made 10 year anniversary remake with ME engine or something. Just my thoughts.

Hmm, the polls show mass effect, but the comments show KoTOR...

Conclusion - Mass Effect fans are greater in number, but Star Wars fans are louder.

I liked Mass Effect better. KotOR was a lot of fun, but ME gave the developers more freedom - new world, new mechanics. There's not much room for mystery or innovation in the already overgrown Star Wars universe, is there?

Also, ME obviously had a better sequel. If only because it was a finished game. I don't know if I'll ever get over the disappointment of KotOR 2's ending (which did NOTHING to wrap up the incredibly compelling and tense story).

I prefer Farscape and Babylon 5.
So, is it just me, or does ME draw A LOT of inspiration from Babylon 5? ;)

I prefer Kotor but I love good star wars lore, not the Clone wars crap Lucas can't let go of but still a Mass Effect lover

If I can count Mass Effect 2, then that. If only 1, then I'm not really sure. My memory of KOTOR is hazy at best.

Okay this is damn well impossible for me to call. I love both games to death for a ton of different and a ton of overlapping reasons... But, since it's a poll, I'll go with KOTOR. Why? HK-47.

While I'm a huge SW Movie nerd, I prefer Mass Effect, simply because it took the formula that KoTOR implemented, and in my mind, improved upon it. I would love to see a new KoTOR game that uses battle mechanics closer to Mass Effect, with the combination of real time combat with pauses for special power activation...alas Bioware has decided to focus on an MMO instead of finishing the story

Kotor by a hair. Both series are great (though for some damned reason the making Kotor 3 a mmorp instead of proper fething game) but Kotors just a little better (it has make your own lightsabers)

I thought that KOTOR was still when BioWare didn't reuse it's forumla constantly, I liked the characters in it better than Mass Effect. Also, I prefer more a more traditional RPG approach.

KOTOR II still destroys both in terms of the story and characters though (aside from the ending).

Mass Effect by several miles.

I may be alone in this opinion, but I honestly believe the first Mass Effect was the best RPG ever made. IT had problems, most notably horrific lag issues on the 360 version, but the story and gameplay was pretty damn stellar. Mass Effect 2 improved upon the gameplay somewhat, but lacked in other departments.
