For me at least, Both of these games fall into the "Generic Bioware" category, We have our protagonist who has to save the world/universe/small puppy/whatever but to do so he needs to gather a small group of boring, self absorbed individuals who feel it necessary to tell you there life story when ever you ask them what the time is.

Once said protagonist has gathered these individuals and equipped them with new trousers he can then embark on his/her quest. This usually entails running through linear worlds/towns/buildings and sucking up to once for your followers enough that they may give you a blow-job.

Oh and throw in a couple of moral dilemmas and a plot twist around 3/4 of the way through the game and you have every Bioware fanboi itching to hand over their money.

Back on topic though I much preferred Mass Effect to KotOR, I found the story to be (a little) less predictable and the combat and game play just felt more...Natural.
nice flame your puttin up there, too bad that exact same flame has been said and done 100x over before. and who cares if it's the same general game rundown in each of their games? does every developer not have similar habits to the games they have made before?
Similar habits I can understand, I can even understand why developers would choose to use a certain feature more than once, but putting out the game game over and over again with a slightly different story and setting is just plain lazy.

I generally preferred Mass Effect to KOTOR for the singular reason that KOTOR's combat system was rubbish. Granted, Mass Effect had a rubbish combat system but at least it required some sort of active participation on my part versus the KOTOR model of "pause the game, spam the same sequence of attacks I've used a billion times, unpause and then wait for my enemies to be brought to flaming ruin".

i can agree, but obviously they are changing it enough to the point that people keep buying them time and time again, am i right? i mean mass effect - third person shooter, dragon age is a fantasy medieval style game (the second ones combat switches it up immensely if you can tell by the fans response to it).

game to game they make some changes, but at the central core they keep the same general way they tell stories, ill agree to that for sure (jennifer hale anyone? and whoever voices carth in kotor)
