I just want to point out that I didn't hate Cerberus with a passion. I understand where they come from, even if it is a bit immoral. It's just that damned Illusive Man. He has this annoying tendancy to glorify everything.
"Dude, you sent us into a trap that you could have easily warned us about!"
"But we still got a lot of vital information about how to stop the Collectors."
"FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU-"

I don't know about cerberus as a whole but I definately do not trust the Illusive man. I mean he takes on completely different personas at the end of the game. You do what he wants and he's all nice and, "good job shepard you saved us all." But if you don't he freaks out like a kid in the supermarket not getting that shiny new toy. Doesn't he also start yelling how he is humanities strength? He's a fucking looney that's what!

I'd only trust them so long as they continue to help me. Once they stop that though I start hunting down the Illisive Man immediately. So long as they are an enemy of the Reapers and aren't my enemy then I'll work with them - cautiously. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" and all that jazz.

I will add I used them as a tool, especially as I wasnt given the chance to defect, I worked with what I had to get the job done, and made sure my team's actions and my actions conformed to my own morals.

And as for conflicting morals go pleanty of modern groups have performed conterdictory acts as far as outsiders can reason.

No. Just, no. I started to question things a bit, but when it came down to the Illusive Man's command to save the Collector ship, that sealed the deal for me. Their ends do not justify their means, and to be honest, I even question whether that end is the betterment of humanity.

I played the game the first time fully expecting Miranda to turn on me, or to have Cerberus have some sort of fail-safe built into the ship or myself. I too had the Sole Survivor background, and then I find out they do the same thing to Kahoku's men. Guess my unit didn't give them enough data.

However, the people on my ship--even Miranda after I blew up the Collector base--I do trust. That's because 1) I saved their lives 2) my character showed them that things can get done without stepping on everyone who gets in your way.

Its not an uncommon belief that what's good for you and your beliefs is good for your society/your country/humanity/etc as a whole.

SPOILER Below, I'd put it in tags but cant rember how

Saren was similar, and its part of the reason its possible to convince him to kill himself in ME1 was he beleived in protecting the terminous systems so completely that when he was shown that he had been controlled into becoming the biggest threat he was willing to kill himself. He'd allowed himself to become worse than he believed the humans to be, and worse he'd been been brought back by that which he'd believed to be so wrong.

Cerberous could quite concieviably be a varied organisation, from moderates to fanatics with every shade between.

I trusted that they didn't want Shepard dead. They wouldn't go through that kind of time and effort just to kill him off. I did expect a betrayal at some point though, either them trying to force him to work with them (I suspected EDI would take over the ship seeing as she was their AI) or that they would screw you over once you'd completed the mission.

I was extremely persistent in telling everyone in-game that I wasn't working for them. They didn't seem to believe me a lot of the time.

The council outright dismisses the reapers. Even after you prove their existence. The council is basically the UN, the figureheads who bicker and talk but don't do anything. Cerberus, whether you agree with their methods or not, are doing something.
This is basically why I didn't mind working with them despite the dislike. They were willing to get the job done rather than sit there discussing it. My God did I want to smack the Council around when they still didn't believe you.

I get where they are coming from and all that. But their methods are just a little too extreme. So no,I don't trust them.
I would if they would tone their actions down a little. But until then I shall not trust them.

If it weren't for the fact that Cerberus (Or just people in Cerberus) torture kids and enslave sentient beings for shock troops, I might give them a chance. But as it stands, they do that, more, and cover it up with, "Our methods differ, but we're on the same side, here."

No, actually, we aren't. Cerberus wants a human-centric galaxy, I want one governed by ALL races. Those are fairly opposing view points, no?

Didn't really like them (but Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man fucking ruled) but was more than willing to work with them in the game. Didn't trust them at all but hey, you start out in the game after being dead for two years, your Spectre status is revoked for the beginning and the Alliance isn't exactly forthcoming with help. That said I did only went as far as to say I would work for them then I just did my own thing. By the end of the game I'm pretty sure I kept on blowing them off and in the next game will probably have to deal with Cerberus trying to kill me again.

In short: not that bad of guys for saving Shepard; didn't trust them though.

I liked the Illusive Man, I like to listen to Martin Sheen's voice. But trust him? Like hell I would, I only did what he said because I was forced to.
