Poll: Metal and it's Deterioration in the Pop Music World

I don't really care about Metal, but I do want more good music. It seems like all the new music today sounds the same... Generic rap, generic pop music with a nasal-sounding young man or hot chick, or some random combination of electric guitars and drums that sounds like a steel mill being blown up by the Atom Bomb.

Bring back AC/DC! Bring back Led Zepp! I want more Queen!

... Oh well, I'm going to start playing the Guitar Hero series pretty soon, I guess I'll get my fill of good music from that.

Mainstream media doesn't make metal bad, it just promotes bad metal because a lot of people have bad taste. The same goes for any genre. Often when someone says "I hate rap/metal/punk/opera/whatever" it's because they've only heard bad, uninspired, commercially-promoted examples of the genre. The exception is country music, of which only the best is heard on commercial radio - I know, it's a scary thought.

I always thought Underoath, Avenged Sevenfold and Killswitch are emo bands.

I have to say yes and no. I think it's hard to know which bands genuinely want to go in a new direction and which bands change to become more popular. I do find that bands, from any genre, can lose sight of their "roots" as soon as they reach mainstream popularity. Some bands believe that they are the greatest and become a bit pretentious.
