We'll see, honestly. I don't like to waste my time worrying about a game prior to its release unless there are huge red flags. I don't really see them with MGS4.
The thing about MGS2 is that the introduction of Raiden was handled the wrong way. The story really didn't lend itself to making Raiden a worthy "successor" to Snake, but rather being an imitator. This combined with the fact that you got to play Snake, oh, probably about 2 hours worth of game time is part of what leads to all the Raiden hate.
The story also had too conveniently happy of an ending, whereas MGS1 had an ending which was nice but which was decidedly somber. MGS3 brought back this somberness and also decided to kick you in the ass doing it. MGS4 looks like more of the same, darker, hopeless, somber tone. If you had any doubts about that, a trailer featuring Snake putting a gun inside his mouth will pretty much change your mind.
I'm looking forward to it.
