I get migraines quite frequently, unfortunately. I inherited mine from my mums side of the family, the women on her side of the family going back generations has them, and they all get triggered by hormones.
I, however, have a rare case of insomnia that causes my brain to never fully turn off or relax as it should. For example, when i sleep large parts of my brain actually function at a higher capacity than when they are awake and can cause headaches and mental exhaustion, but sometimes when i'm awake, parts of my brain don't turn on and put greater stress on the rest. So i typically get my migraines when i'm stressed, angry, or, unfortunately, when i'm happy or excited, since my brain refuses to relax as it should.

and yeah, those colored thingys... strangely accurate representation...

My dad has them, but only once every couple years, and I've had one once, when I was a baby.

I get them quite rarely. Triggered by dehydration. Absolutely detest them, I think I inherited it from both sides of my family too, both my parents get them.

I get them less frequently nowadays but a few years back they were pretty frequent and bad. They would always start out with either muddled-up sight or one of my hands going numb, then gradually my limbs would become numb to the point of immobility, and I would have a horrid headache for several hours, sometimes crossing over to the next day. I would also be sick sometimes. They usually seem to occur after times of stress, such as exams.

The worst thing is, my eyes become sensitive to light, so I can't play vidya games, watch the telly or read.

I also get something similar to this, but instead they consist of dull flashing colours, it literally feels like that portion of my vision has been cut out. It starts small then grows with time.

I never suffer from migraines but I am the cause of them...I do not discriminate on family genetics

I am in the lucky position that i hadnt had more headache more than a few times in my life. One time it was intense heat shock on my head from the burning summer sun, that was aweful, and since then perhaps 3 times in the last 12 years, a slight stinging from immense stress or hangover.

Same kinda thing for me, I get spots of light and cant see properly.

Dont get them often though but I do suffer from headaches caused by nerve problems in my neck which sometimes turn into migraines.

Get them often enough, used to be worse when I used to live further in the south.

With me they are usually weather related, sometimes I get them from certain artifical food types (especially chocolate)

Got them from my mother and she from her father, don't know whether the line streches further back.

The best remedies I have found are taking warm showers, drinking loads of water and going back to bed.

I get them but only a handful a year. It's from having the Lupus. Mine are bad enough that I can actually loose all my peripheral vision or my ability to speak clearly. (I won't be able to recall simple words like 'red' or 'pizza')
Not sure what sets it off. I use Imitrex as a remedy.

I get really debilitating migraines. My cousins get them as well, but no one else in the family does.

I only get them from time to time, usually if I'm stressed out or my hormones are out of whack. I'm also light sensitive, and florescent lights can trigger a terrible migraine if I'm not careful.

I did learn a neat trick from my brother, who also gets migraines (everyone in my family gets them), which is in the early, pre-migraine stages, to drink something with a LOT of caffeine. That can usually stop the migraine or make it not as bad. I see halos and get terrible tunnel vision when I'm about to get a migraine, so as soon as my eyes start being wonky, I grab a coke or coffee.
