You can inherit Migraines? I always assumed you got them when you were severely dehydrated. Drinking Gatorade always helps ease mine. It's the electrolytes in the formula.

I think I got mine from my mother. They seem to be triggered by dehydration or stress, mostly.
There's not much I can do once they get going apart from turn off all lights around me, close the curtains, put some sunglasses on and lie down. The hyper-sensitivity to light is not fun...
Nor is the occasional vomiting it induces.
If I feel a migraine coming, I can usually avoid it with massive amounts of fluid consumption. Unfortunately they've been building up whilst I sleep recently, so I'm waking up because of the pain...

Migrains tend to run in families, but we don't really know a lot about what causes them. It's bloodflow in the brain issue, usually high bp, but we don't know why, for the most part. My mom, grandma, and sister all get horrible migrains often. I get one occasionally, but not nearly as bad. The weather thing is prolly due to chaged air pressure?

I feel your pain. My early symptoms include that clipping of vision, odd shapes, and eventually a numbness in my lips and face. Its crazy. I'm down for a week when I get one.

try caffeine, it always helps just get a cup of coffee and it works.

Caffeine seems to make it worse... It kinda adds to the dehydration. For me,anyway.

Yeah, things like lucozade sport and powerade seem to help. I should probably get a few bottles...

I get migraines on a consistent monthly basis (no jokes... I know what you're thinking) and I absolutely despise it. Chills, vomiting, extreme pain, hypersensitivity to everything, the whole deal. I'm also likely to get them during times of extreme stress. My dad had them too, so I guess that's evidence for it being a hereditary thing.

Abysmal every time, and painkillers do nothing for it.

I had my first one around age six. I remember being put through some sort of machine for x-rays or whatever, and it was absolutely terrifying. I'm probably going to have to put up with 'em for another few decades. Makes me sick just thinking about it.

My mum gets really bad migraines sometimes, but it is not something that either me or my brother seem to have inherited. Heck, I don't even get normal headaches unless I've been been wandering the outback for 3 days without water. [footnote]May be incredibly exaggerated[/footnote].

I am sorry to those of you who get migraines though, it seems to be one of those pains that you can't really explain to someone who hasn't had it.

I get them whenever I watch CSPAN, MSNBC, FOX, or anything having to do with politics for too long.

i used to get them about once a month, i got 'em from my mom, they were terrible, the sensitivity to light, sound and motion, they'd get so bad that i'd actually go temporarily blind and then pass out.

luckily, i just stopped getting them a few years ago. they just stopped, it was/is awesome.

I used to get the pretty frequently, to the point where once my parents took me to get a CAT scan once. But (knocks on wood until fingers are bloodied) I haven't had one in a few years. My mom gets them all the time, though.
