It's in Beta. Many people bought it in Alpha. No reasonable people are expecting it to work really well right now.
I'm so glad it's worked as well as it has for me, considering how many buggy "finished" games I've played over the years.

I have constructed a small outpost made entirely out of glass on the ocean. Surrounding this outpost is a system of currents which are designed to push anything that gets caught in them underneath a small dirt wall. They are then trapped there and drown slowly while I cackle at them from behind my glass wall. I am currently in the process of making similar traps in other locations around the area.

I have also explored and cleared out one cavern with torches, and am gearing up to do the same with another one when my current project is complete.

I haven't even done very much grinding. I have one mine, in which I found much iron (all you will ever need for tools/weapons/armour IMO) and coal, etc. I don't go in it much anymore - there isn't much need. I do perfectly well with what I have.

I haven't even touched the multiplayer yet.

Yeah, I think it's good.

I can quit anytime I like.

I just have to finish my flying doom fortress...
Sure sure :p I'm much the same with my base ^_^

Also. Christ. Why does sandstone have the explosion resistance properties of soggy bread??
Because its made out of sand?

I made a tower from sea level to the sky out of baked stone, and on top a throne room made of obsidian, and a throne made of gold and solid iorn. And the basement is an unending cave of horrors, and the farmlands are in an underwater complex also made of smoothstone and glass and hellrock. And there's a roller coaster leading from the throne room to the bottom of the world, and I have a moat of lava. And a netherworld teleporter system to another continent.

One time I was griefing a server(I don't usually do this, I was just in the mood for trolling) So I filled someones underground intricate base with entirely TNT and put a sign up on the door that said "all your base are belong to us"

I played it for a while, didnt see much point in playing so stopped. Havn't touched it since

Well it is a sandbox in the true sense of the word, so you do really have to ..craft your own fun
Example:

When I was bored of my manor, I built a jockoff tower on top of it. When I got bored of that, I built a portal to the Nether in a smaller, adjacent tower. When I got bored of that, I sailed for about half a minute and found a small peninsula covered in trees, and so was born a forest log cabin.

*NEW WORLD*

I spawned in a vast tundra, so I wandered and swam and climbed until I found a little island, unpopulated by anything save a couple of sheep and some trees[footnote]I later found out this isle would become a veritable Ark of animal activity[/footnote]. Here I built my fortress, which later grew into a strange wooden castle. Having established a large (and I do mean large) mining system beneath the island, I found myself with enough iron to make a little minecart trail around the perimeter of the isle. On one of my circumnavigations I spotted a large overhang some way away, and set about making a snow villa atop it. Then I built a lava waterfall to cascade over the side. Still in possession of an inordinate amount of iron, I broke the loop of my island track and instead made it a fast-travel system between the snow villa and the isle.

And that's where I am now. It's very much a game about 'making your own fun', but if you can do it right, it'll keep your mind entertained and your creative flair burning for days at a time.

Incidentally, my next project is a small subaquatic chamber, purely because I can. It's proving quite difficult.

Minecraft has a long way to go to catch up with Dwarf Fortress, however it's a lot newer, and it is a good game.

Dwarf Fortress is too finicky and complex to be played in short bursts. MC is easier on the eyes and the brain when you just want to relax for 15 minutes or so.
