So far I've burnt down a forest and hollowed a (small) mountain. I don't think I qualify for 'environmentalist' any more.

What a perfect opportunity to shamelessly flash my extensive house at all of you :D

The fact that the two would be mutually exclusive is pretty 20th-century thinking... Oh, in Minecraft? Who cares, it's all Legos!

The randomly created worlds are beautiful, so I try not to touch on the little oddities I find. But screw sand and gravel, I don't want them.

Bit of both really, I like to build my structures coming out of the landscape and merging smoothly..

Then again I usually build just off the coast on my navy or high up in the air in my air fleets so my structures don't normally disrupt the environment.. except for my mines of course..

I always replant trees as well, usually with more than I uprooted because of the excess of saplings..

Depends on what I want to do. I dug out a 256x256 square all the way to bedrock, filled in the cracks with black wool, and made a huge replica of Pac-Man (each pellet was 4x4, with the corners taken out, for reference)

And just recently I made a two-story English Country-style house in a cove with a waterfall and river behind it. I built the majority of the house out of colored wool because I wanted it to look a specific way. Then I was stupid and built a fireplace and the house burned down, as well as the area surrounding it... pretty much destroyed an entire area in a forest fire. Was fun.

(this was taken after putting a layer of obsidian over the bedrock to make it look neater)

Deep deep inside, environmentalist.
I always take advantage of the natural formations around my spawn to make my house.
But I always conserve the beauty of the area. :)
Still, huge fortresses are awesome.

A bit of a mix, sort of. Most of my projects were underground mansions/bunkers, but right now I'm building a fairly large one on top of a mountain. Where I spawned is mostly deserts and plains though, so there wasn't really much nature to destroy. Actually when I'm done there'll probably be more trees there than when I started.

I'll re-shape the environment as I need, though I'll usually place dirt blocks to make it look natural when I'm done.

As for underground, it doesn't really matter so much. I'll probably make a huge tunnel connecting my current base to any new ones I make further away. Maybe if I find a nice tundra or tiaga biome...

Neither.

I built a few things, stopped playing entirely. A fun little timesink.

But I've got 15+ RPGs on my backlog.

I would be an industrialist, though.
lol if you stopped playing, can I just have your key? XP

OT: Yeh I'd pretty much be an Environmentalist, making a huge-ass fortress in the middle of this forest.

On our Minecraft server, I grew a whole forest. It became thick and tall enough to travel on top of. I used it for wood, but would always put a sapling to replace it. I guess I'd fall under environmentalist.

I'm an environmentalist until a cow shows up inside my house. Seriously, I'm not putting up with that.

I haven't got the game. Only tried the free classic once. Would be more of an industrialist though.

"boatmurdered scale" Industrialist.

Google it, to understand properly.

Didn't google?
the landscape is scared. It looks like hell.

- Trees are for underground tree farms, uptop trees serve only to hinder surface expansion and hide tree creepers.
- the grass uptop is good only for tilling seeds from.

An Envrionmentalist. I try to preserve everything I can and often build my structures around nature without having to deforest or dig up an area. I sometimes even go out planting new trees.
I think trees caused me to be an industrialist. The monsters would hide under the trees then attack me. I cut down every forest that is not under my control. As soon as I found out my forest was hiding monsters I set it on fire.
Hope your partner don't hide anything from you XD
Now peace love and understading towards the nature =)

Pretty much this. :) I like to do a bit of scouting when I first spawn to see if there are any particularly cool environmental features, and try to build my first base around them, incorporating them into the architecture if possible. The entrance to my current "main base" is right next to this huge natural stone spire, which is a great landmark. :D

My usual play style tends to focus on massive spelunking expeditions, so most of my bases are underground anyway...I love stumbling across huge caverns while digging, and I'll carve paths into the walls wherever I need to in order to get at all the ore veins, but I'll usually fill them in if I don't need them any more and there's a specific look I'm going for. And yeah, I always replant trees once I've harvested them.

I'm starting to get a little more ambitious, though, and plan to start expanding upwards instead of downwards once I have a more definite idea of what I want to build. And there will certainly be expeditions into the Nether once I get the hang of obsidian farming. :3

I usually fill in the holes so it looks pleasing. However, given the vast quantities of stone I mined for my bastarding huge snow-fortress (made out of smooth, furnaced stone) I would say industrialist.

I prefer to just leave as much of the environment as it is, it is more of a challenge, and fun in my opinion.

Environmentalist. Though that's mostly because I can't be bothered to do large-scale reshaping.

My biggest structure is underground, so there's little to notice on the surface.

I'm a bit of both, actually. I'll usually find a cave, then enhance the cave to suit my goals. Although, sometimes the damn creepers make me burn down the forests to get rid of them so...
