I mean come on you can't play the new paper mario on minecraft.
/thread

I really want that game. I'm planning to get a 3DS just for that.

OT: Minecraft is a lot of fun, but a 3DS is portable and has more options. They're in completely different price categories, though, so that should factor into your decision.

Minecraft. You'll want to save the $300 for other things. Trust me, I just finished college too.

i would just say minecraft because its about 400 dollars cheaper than buying a 3Ds and games
I'm not sure that the OP is considering buying every 3DS game.
It's about $400 for the 3DS and two games. It's $20 for Minecraft which is guaranteed to entertain you for centuries.

EDIT: Wait, you just finished college? You'll really want that $300...

Buy minecraft.
Take all the mony you save and spend it on a few other games.
Or something else that you might consider fun.

Minecraft all the way, you will spend hours just being creative and discovering what you can do with what is available to you. Plus there's multiplayer, and tons of mods you can download for it to make the game more interesting. Plus it's only $21, you can't go wrong with that, especially for the dollars to hours of playtime ratio.

The 3DS meanwhile is 250$ without taxes, and add 60$ for each game you want. Legend of Zelda OoT is a great game, but there's nothing new to the story and it's basically a polished re-release. Plus the 3D isn't really something to write home about since they recommend that you only play it for an hour's worth of time. And no matter how many times you save over old saves, it's still the same game with the same environment, the same characters, and the same storyline. If you really want a 3DS though, I'd suggest that you wait until the price drops and they actually have a decent library of games.

Minecraft has ten or so slots for new games and each new game generates a new map. So there are endless possibilities for you to be creative and have fun in Minecraft. So do yourself a favor and get Minecraft. It's simple to run, offers hours of entertainment, and you can save that extra 200$ for investments later on down the road.

I'd say in the long run, a 3DS would get you much more joy than minecraft unless you are one of those people that likes more than half just holding down Left or Right mouse click.

3DS or skip minecraft and get terraria.

Minecraft is good for building stuff but theres a hell of a lot more to terraria, you can actualyl go outside at night for example. There isn't anythign explodey as a general enemy meaning you don't risk your house every time you open your door (yes i know its less dangerous but it got very VERY annoying minecraft)

You still lose stuff for dying but not as much, so you can take risks and explore more.

And its about the same price.

[EDIT] Oh if you get a 3ds get Ghost Recon :Shadow Wars, it is a VERY good turn based straegy game, lots of mission (done 40 so far and not at the end yet), some fun skirmish missions and a decent bit of content, for some reason it has zero advertising but was the best of hte launch games :/
But the problem with Terraria is that is has an endgame of sorts, once you get the best gear (not entirely dissimilar to Minecraft), everything becomes too easy. And since the world isn't procedurally generated like Minecraft, you're going to run out of things to explore, and Terraria's building aspect simply isn't as entertaining as Minecraft's.

But I still got about 30 hours of genuine fun out of Terraria before my saves got reverted to an earlier state for some reason.

Sure you could, if you have an imagination and another person who would be willing on multiplayer. Heck you wouldn't even need two people. In fact you could play paper mario and then some since you aren't restricted to the game mechanics/storyline. You can make it that Paper Mario travels to space with an armadillo and a monkey in a track suit in order to face the dreaded king Zuulogue of the planet of Macadamia in order to not only rescue that ball and chain we call Princess Peach but to recover a lost treasure that can assist in curing the land of a debilitating disease that's not only killing the plants and wildlife, but is also making the people of the Mushroom Kingdom ill. (And yes I just made that up.)

A 3DS to kill time. Minecraft is only one game.
Well that is true, but all of the games on the 3DS are only "one game" too, plus they cost 60$ each and don't really come with downloadable mods, or a chance to make your own story...

Have you played Ocarina of Time before? If yes, then don't get it, because the experience (From my understanding), is that it's completely the same.

Anyway, the poll is going to be very in favour of minecraft, because the escapist community loves it.

Well if the OP has enough money to buy a 3DS, then he/she could just buy both Terraria and Minecraft. Minecraft for relaxation and flexing his/her creativity and Terraria for when he/she is feeling adventurous since I've heard and seen that it plays similar to a Castlevania/Metroid game or Metroidvania if you will. They're both around the same price and both can provide the same amount of entertainment.

I actually find the creepers to be quite cute. :3

Minecraft. Nintendo likes to fuck it's customers over with EULAs that sap your rights.
Sorry to jack the thread, but i find this highly interesting.. Could you provide a link to the terms in question?
I don't have a link to them (But I'm not the person you quoted)

But they reserve the right to brick your console if you put homebrew software on it. I don't have the specific part of the contract but that's in there I'm sure. That's not sapping your rights, since you openly signed a contract allowing it. I will not sign of course, and I won't buy it because I do not like the terms.

hm, I'm not gonna vote in the poll and say both.
if you're looking for something right now, I'd say Minecraft. I just got it recently, and I can testafy, it's a brilliant game.
however, the 3DS is not without it's merits. I'm probably gonna wait for a price drop on the 3DS, seeing as how the only games out right now that interest me are Ocarina and Street Fighter. once Super Mario, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus, Star Fox, MGS, and all the other kickass titles come out for the 3DS, then I may pick one up.

then again, Minecraft is only $21...
I don't wanna come off like a rich prick... but if you have the time and money... why not buy both? I mean, it's not like you're deciding between two consoles, you COULD get both... just sayin...

Minecraft is the best priced game dollar for dollar out there. If you don't like it, then you're only out $20 and can go get that 3DS. On the other hand if you don't like the 3DS you'll be out a lot more money.
