Currently, A Georgia lawmaker is trying to pass a law that will render having a miscarriage a criminal act. What is the punishment for this "crime", you might ask?

Death.

Thoughts, Escapist?

What is this, I don't even...

The DEATH PENALTY for having a miscarriage!?

That's both crazy and disgusting to even consider. A miscarriage is a traumatic event for most Mothers, why make it even worse then it has to be by shoving this on them?

Stupid stupid stupid...

In other news, nose bleeds punishable by $20,000 fine and sneezing in public results in 12 hours in the stocks.

It's obviously insane and everyone knows it, I do think miscarriages due to substance abuse should have some jail time though, given it happens after the first trimester so that there is no way the mother is ignorant to her pregnancy.

I am really tempted to vote "yes" on the poll just because of how biased and weighted the options are...

Okay, this is ridiculous. Of course, this is MSNBC we're talking about here, so you can't really trust anything they say.

To me, it looks like one crazy person proposing something incomprehensibly stupid, and these commentators using it to demonize the entire pro-life movement. They didn't just say "this guy is an idiot", they started Republican-bashing, acting like this is normal conservative behavior, and it's a "war on reproductive rights".

Horrifying, especially when you consider that most courts would have the woman in court defending herself long before the trauma would abate. A horrendous offense to the very idea of law.

Forcing a miscarriage should be illegal, but not miscarriages in general. That's silly.

And yes, Georgia is nothing but a redneck hick state that us classy people in Washington look down on. We gave the world Grunge, they gave us gingivitis.

Sorry bout your home state, AJ Styles.

It's not just appalling, it is barbaric. It's incredibly misogynistic, downright inhuman and degrading to not just women, but humanity as a whole.

Whoever that Georgia lawmaker is, he does not belong in the 21st century. Or any century for that matter.

I don't think it means what you think it means.

It would most likely be used to punish mothers who miscarry through drug or alcohol abuse.

Also, it's not Georgia or Georgia lawmakers...it's ONE lawmaker in Georgia.
No, I'm pretty sure. This is the same guy who wants abuse and rape victims to be made accusers instead of victims.

A snippet from that bill
"...change the state?s criminal codes so that in ?criminal law and criminal procedure? (read: in court), victims of rape, stalking, and family violence could only be referred to as ?accusers?..."

In case you don't know much about the legal system, it would be taking many rights away from them, and exposing them to the public.

Now THAT sounds like a crime.
Yeah I'd personally say that recklessly endangering your baby's life for hedonistic purposes is a crime, a pretty nasty one at that.

But my main point is that people really need a checklist before they start bashing a law, something like:

1. Do I actually understand this law?
2. Am I living in a comic book? (seriously)
3. What is this law designed to do?
4. Is my source lying? (in this case incidentally it's 'yes'. Well, it's a lie by omission)
5. Do I actually have the political and legal knowledge I need?

Not meaning to be offensive but most people on here simply do not have the training to understand legal thought. That's evident by the fact that the OP doesn't get the difference between one guy proposing a badly worded law and a huge conspiracy to kill women.
1. I don't appreciate you coming in here with a holier than thou attitude and calling me a liar and insulting my competence.

2. Where in that video, exactly, does it say that it's for hedonistic purposes? I gave the information as it's stated in the video, as well as linking to the video in question.

3. I never said it was a conspiracy to kill women, I said what I was told.

4. Saying "No offense, but..." in any sort of conversation does NOT give you license to be an ass.

Are we talking abortions, or through use of drugs and alcohol that the mother continues to take?

Drugs, alcohol, stairs, coat hanger etc. I don't see getting an abortion as forcing a miscarriage, which sounds odd because that's pretty much what it is.
