Season 2 for me it deffinetly took more risks then the first season and even when there was an episode that didn't seem too exciting on paper I.e. Family Appreciation Day, Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, or Read it and Weap, each one had some amazing moments like the history of Ponville segment, Flim and Flam's con artist personalities (not to mention their song), or an Indiana Jones parody. Also I prefer both the premear episode and finale of season 2 over season 1's.

The first season did a great job showing the darker sides of each in the Mane 6, proving that all is not sunshine and butterflies. It was also because of that, that I developed my respect for the writers.

The second season was more fanservice to us Bronies, with Derpy talking, fluttershy being a tree etc. which was awesome to see! It really served to establish the bond between Hasbro and the Bronies.

I love the both equally.

It would be nice if they could keep mlp awesome but its one of those things that only time will tell, I mean its main target audience tends to get rather insipid stuff aimed at it so hopefully they can keep mlp from becoming that again.

Which donkey? cause there are like four of them.
Yeah fingers crossed it doesn't nose dive into the swamp of tedious, run of the mill child entertainment.
(I meant the one pinkie tries to befriend)

I pretty much prefer season 1. While the newest appeal of it had some factor to it but my main reason is mainly there were a couple of episodes I dislike in season 2. Granted season 2 was still good.

About that first season point. I reckon the first season did show a lot more of the darker side of the characters (Lesson Zero was still Twilight's darkest episode). Season 2 had so much more of characters overcoming their weaknesses, and it actually staying. For example, after "Putting Your Hoof Down", Fluttershy became overall less tolerant of bullshit and asserted herself more. After the reading episode, Rainbow's seen reading much more often and is generally more tolerant of Twilight's geekiness.

Where is the poll option that completely disrupts the poll results and adds nothing for statistics value?!
I choose season 3!!!

But really, I don't know. I liked them both so can't really choose.
But then again, Winter WrapUp.

Also...

Applejack. It's clearly Applejack. Or Spike. ...Damn! Can't decide! ;.;

Either way, I'm still waiting for Applejack's own song.

I like your choice of best pony! But I do not like your choice of best song... the Smile song is so much better than Winter Wrap Up!
I also can't wait for AJ's song, Ingram needs to get it right and make it a pure country style song to show off her singing voice. Leave the disney style, happy go lucky orchestral songs to the others.

Well, Imo the best episode was that one where pinkie pie goes insane, which I think was in season one. Had me in stitches for the entire of her little dream sequence with the inanimate objects. Also, I felt that season 2 didn't have enough of the Mane 6 together, and way too much of the cutie mark crusaders. I really don't like their episodes.
I have to hand it to season 2 though, because as has already been said, in general the episodes were better and made me laugh way more than the first season. Probably because they tried to tailor it more towards the bronies as well.

Season 1: Paradoxically non-shit colourful pony show that has good writing, characters, setting and all that crap.

Season 2: Paradoxically non-shit colourful pony show that has good writing, characters, setting and all that crap.

Yeah, they're about the same. I'm heartened to see that leading the poll. Now if only there were favorite pony polls reflecting "there is no best pony, all are awesome."

The early and late episodes of season 2 were pretty great, but for a while during the middle of the season they just didn't capture my attention much at all. I wouldn't say they were bad necessarily, just not particularly good. Season 1 on the other hand I'd say was consistently between good and great, so I'll go with that.

Plus... You know... The Greatest and most Powerful pony of them all sadly only appeared in one of these two seasons. I'd be lying if I said that didn't factor into my decision at all.
What are you talking about? Rarity was in most of those episodes.

They're both good, but Season 1 is more addicting.

Season 2 had some really good moments, but I can watch Swarm of the Century and Over a Barrel again and again.

And I DID appear in the second season, not as often as those NEIGH sayers, but I did appear in a newspaper article praising my UNDENIABLE greatness.

OT: I preferred season 2, just because it felt took more risks, built it characters better, and was taking a slightly more mature feel.

I'm gonna have to watch that again I guess, after seeing the brony reaction vid to it and hearing how some people loved it. Maybe I can turn off my brain enough to not get annoyed by all the little holes in it... I wonder if beer would help with that, it sounds like an experiment Ill have to try next weekend.

I liked them both fine. Season 1 was pretty much of even quality and good all the way through, season 2 had some really great eps and a couple that weren't as good so it probably averages out.

Season 2.

Fucking Discord and Chrysalis stole the shows.

Also, I felt the songs were much better.

Words can not describe how magical the composition is.

Season 1 tried to establish more character and "slice of life".

Season 2 tried to be bolder, and with more setpieces and bigger stories.

They're both to the same show, but, these seasons went out for different things. I could definitely feel something very different between the two. I can well imagine how certain things might have been different if a certain episode's concept was in the other season.

I mean, if Boast Busters had been in Season 2, the climax would probably have been more violent. And if A Friend in Deed had been in Season 1, we'd probably be seeing Pinkie Pie actually stay in character. Seriously, I was rather ticked off at how much they blatantly made her turn a near 180 on her already-established character. Lauren Faust stated that she was NOT. TO. BE. A. PEST. Remember what she was in that episode? An uber-nuisance. What happened?
