Although I know no details of the upcoming MW3, I feel the SP/MP dichotomy is getting to be overdone. The formula works for the devs because adhering to focusing on MP as a major selling point while incorporating story elements, factions, locales, etc. from the single player campaign keeps a consistent pace on what is released as content.
Speaking of content, I appreciate the various extra game modes that are added in each new game, such as Nazi Zombies, Spec Ops, and Dead Ops because they add an optional experience without having to detract from the SP/MP formula. Although they do not always become commonplace game modes, seeing Zombies in Black Ops as an exception to what becomes a standard game-type due to popularity gives me hope that the developers' 'experimental' game types are more than just simple extras, but a hopeful addition to content, as well as an openness to change. They just have to work on how they define a shooter to make more cool additions, which brings me back to my 'overdone' aspect...
..The Call of Duty franchise has never been more than a mindless shooter. A fun, mindless shooter, and I occasionally play the games, with perhaps added feelings of some frustrations in the mix regarding the multiplayer component.
But it can never be more than that. Unless IW takes a new approach to producing games by breaking the mold and releases something mindblowing such as developing a new and interesting IP, or maybe revamping the SP/MP orientation.
Then again, why fix what ain't broken? Or so thinks IW and Treyarch.
After CoD4's release, the same method to game production has been applied, although with minimal risk by adding minor features, over, and over, and.. we keep getting similar games, if not arguably the same games. I'm kinda tired of the stagnation TBH. I've opened myself up to other genres by now.
One more thing. I voted WAFFLES because I couldn't resist. I love silly poll options.
Consider this post a 'I don't care either way.'
