For me it was in 2003 just after I completed the 3rd level of Halo: Combat Evolved on Legendary. (Still one of my favourite levels in any games I have ever played to this date.) After dying an innumerable amount of times I found myself thinking. "That...was fucking AWESOME!" Still on my high of fun I develed back whole-heartedly into the game and I haven't looked back since. I still love enjoying a game and I think that on a whole gaming has bettered my life.

When was the moment that everything just clicked and thought dawned on you, "My god I am a gamer."

What game were you playing?

What were thoughts?

What year was it?

Were you happy/depressed at the thought?

It was back in '01 when I got my GameCube and played Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door for 10 hours straight, not doing any story stuff, just wandering around exploring.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I attribute my current status as 'gamer' to Prince of Persia Sands of Time.

Sure, it took me an entire month to beat it but it was an amazing game with an amazing story to back it up which held me tight in the videogame world long enough for me to get my footing and find my own way. I don't remember the year but I will always love that game no matter what far into the future.

I don't know. Sometime between my first time playing GoldenEye with my older stepbrother and my addiction to RA2:YR and W:A. I would say 1998 or '99 I became a full-time gamer.

EDIT: Just to avoid confusion, I played my first game when I was 3 years old in '91 and gaming has always been in my life, but I didn't make the jump to 'gamer' status until '98.

I had spent a long time casually playing games like Mario titles on the Super Nintendo and the occasional arcade game but that was a time when games were a casual indulgence for me, largely because my parents refused to let me on a game system of my own, even my computer wouldn't play anything more complex then say a 2D side scroller.
The first game I played on a console that I actually owned for myself was Halo: Combat Evolved on my Xbox, and at the time it was a huge radical change in gameplay for me and instantly I decided that this whole 'gaming' thing was something that I wanted to have a much bigger impact on my life.
And now today I am a dateless teenage boy playing all kinds of video games from shooters, to puzzles, to RPG's and all points in between and I haven't regretted a second of it.

1988. Pole Position II on the Atari 7800 that my dad brought home. I was 5, and I was hooked.

These as well shortly after. Those were the days indeed.

Technically, I've been a gamer since someone put a Sega Genesis in my hand when I was around 3. But I really consider myself a gamer since I got my GameCube after spending hours mastering Super Smash Bros. Melee with my friends. Those were the best weekends of my life. I should try and get everyone back together again for one last game...

I became a gamer when I was five. It was 1990 and my older brother came home with a Super Nintendo and I got all excited since I've seen it in stores before. We played Super Mario and the rest was history. I loved it since day one and played game after game, much to my mom's dismay.

Bah, more divisions in years would have made this a more interesting poll. I probably started to game around 1982, but as far as this pull is concerned I might as well have started half that long ago.

Well I was a bit of a gamer with Age of Empires back in the day...
And I played Turok, Prince of Persia: SoT, and Black on PS2.
but it was Hl2 when it really clicked.
And I had CSS with that, and I played it a lot.
And then I got the orange box when that came out... and well, yeah I just went mental.

When my dad got me a copy of Quake 2. At first I used only the arrow keys and the 'a', 'control' and 'z' keys.

I played games when I was young, but I became a gamer when I played Resident Evil 2 for the PS1. THen I became a horror genre nerd when I played Silent Hill for the PS1. That thing would have made you crap your pants.
