Where's the moral choice in this? Send the non-living machine that is designed to do jobs not fit for humans or sacrifice someone elses life needlessly? It's like having a potential bomb in front of the courthouse and telling the cops "Okay, you can disarm this bomb yourself, or send the robot."
That's what I thought, too.

I would choose the robot; it can't feel or think, and it doesn't have a soul (like humans). So the choice is easy.

Now, if there was no robot, I'd go. But I guess that I don't even have to make that choice.

Is the robot self aware? If not I and the robot. If it is, then I send a guy in a space suit which has its own independent air suply so ha!
the air enters the suit or dissolves it, the robot is self aware
If the atmoshpere is that corrosive I don't think anything I have would reach the plant in time to extract it. I also doubt this planet would have any plant life either.
OH SHUT YOUR FACE *storms off*
but really, its more about the people than the condition

right, did i mention he is the claptrap of your group?
I don't think that word means what you think it means, as if the robot is the claptrap of the group, that's just makes getting rid of him even more desirable. If that is what you meant, then I fail to see what difference it would make.

I'm kind of a badass, so I'll go out. I really hate condemning people and I probably wouldn't be able to live with myself if I chose someone else.

why can't the "minority" instead be "random person who no special skills"... I ask because you have that minority defined only as minority (therefore can't be scientist, hot, etc.). I would suggest that, while maybe not racist, you seem to already have placed a racial assumption in this.
You read way too much into that, it is more likely that you have the occasional racist thought, and in your guilt have decided (maybe subconsciously) that you have to check that everything mentioning race in any form what so ever isn't even tangibly, indirectly, infinitesimally minutely racist in any way, shape or form.
I like how you shut down my criticism there by in no way demonstrating how it isn't racist, but by telling me that my argument isn't legitimate because you say so. After all, there is no racism and no one has unexamined racist assumptions. There is no reason to ever wonder why "minority" is even a choice (which doesn't even have to do with race, except that the author explicitly stated s/he was thinking of race with his/her "no racist" disclaimer) despite the fact that it defines a person purely on one characteristic that sets that person apart from others. See, nothing is divorced from the real world and there are real world implications to this.

I also like how you assumed that I must be feeling some kind of guilt as opposed to being a minority who is upset that I am listed in there as simply "the useless one that you only keep alive so you don't get accused of being prejudiced". Good show all around.
look, im going to end this argument. im not racist, but it is a test, and before you disregard me, im going to say i am one of the rarest minority cases out there, its just for the answer.

I see. I think perhaps you should have thought this out a bit more, because so far you've spent most of your time plugging the holes in your scenario. Might I suggest something a bit more straightforward, like some sort of climbing or fighting problem where somebody has to stay behind and be doomed?

Decide first who would willingly go, force noone to go, then draw straws out of those. Shortest goes.

Who wouldn't send the robot? You can always back up its memories or repair it when it gets back.
Why don't we have space suits?

If you don't choose the robot, you will be rediculed and hated for all of eternity. It's simply a waste of human life not to send him. But if we need him alive, I'd probably go myself and go down in history.

People view robots as slaves or machines.(In fact, that is what robot means!) Not as actual beings. Kind of like how people viewed humans with black colored skin hundreds of years ago.
That is just taking this to ludicrous levels.
So if I see my car as a machine that makes me racist? Because I see it as a slave?
Because it actually is?
I do wonder who comes up with stuff like that...

That logic would read something like:
a is to b what c is to b, because people saw c as to b hundreds of years ago?
Really?

Backup the robot's data and memory.
Send out said robot.
When the robot rusts, send someone out to recover it.
Once we reach Earth, rebuild robot and upload data.

Everybody wins!
