I would say my biggest disappointment so far in 2011 would have to be Crysis 2. I had such high hopes after how much fun the first game was. Sadly they were destroyed before the game was even officially released. What a waste of 60 dollars.

Worse then average. Everything that tried something different didn't sell, and the copy pasted shooters sold thousands of copies for a engine upgrade. Seroiously, it wasn't very innovative and did a poor job in doing anything but shooting different minorities.

I didn't like Skyrim, just way too easy.

Skyrim was a massive disappointment for me...

Ok I am definitely joking.

Batman Arkham City was a disappointment because the first game is one of my favourite ever games and this one didn't take it to another level like I thought it would. I did still like the game and love the idea of having quite a few villains all in one game rather than just facing a different one in each new game.

In truth, there were about as many upliftings in releases as it did disappointments.

Portal 2, The Elder Scrolls 5, and the like all were quite decent, and, being possibly the staple of the year's quality, Team Fortress Two was made free-to-play.

Though of course there as many bad releases such as...well, I hardly need to say it all; however, the good far outweighs the bad, I feel.

Most disappointing game for me was Halo: Annerversary. I bought it mainly because I had fond memories of the original game...man it has not aged well.

But in general I'd say this has been the best year for games since 2007. Portal 2, Batman: Arkham City, Skyrim and Bastion where all fantastic. I'd say this has been the best year for single player especially for quite sometime, I felt like I was waisting my Xbox Live account this year.

Well, my PS3 copy of Skyrim's always worked fine, so...yeah.

As for disappointing games, Dragon Age II and Alice: Madness Returns had a lot of problems and didn't stack up well to their predecessors, but I still enjoyed them enough to classify them as "Disappointing but(t) fun".

Duke Nukem Forever on the other hand...ugly bleh, and bleh again. Making Duke into a 2-gun only, health regenerating shooter was just about the worst decision they could have made, and Duke's humor has not aged well. I'm just glad I only had to pay $10 to pick it up new. I would have felt really ripped off if I paid any more.

Well I really don't like Skyrim but I didn't expect to, so that's not really a disappointment.

I guess I'll have to say Deus Ex Human Revolution. It's one of my favourite games of the year but it wasn't as... revolutionary as I expected. Probably my own fault though.

Dragon Age II was the most disappointing game ive ever played. Bioware took a successful and boundlessly fun RPG and turned out a lazy, rushed sequel. The wear of rushed work, the grating of lazy design, and the mind-numbing whine of insipid writing were present at every turn. It was not only a textbook example of how to ruin a franchise and enrage a fanbase, it was a textbook example of how not to design a game.

Duke Nukem Forever.

I don't have any clue how they could fuck up a game this bad. Perhaps it was that with a whole decade of development, gaming changed so much that they couldn't keep up, and thus the game ended up being full of elements and ideas that simply did not work together.

man it was a good year, havn't wanted to game this much since 99! i especially loved skyrim (have ps3 version, breaks on occasion, still one of the best games i've ever played) forza 4, ico collection, gears three, uncharted three, don't have enough time to play it all. and frankly i wasn't disapointed by anything, of course i only spend my money on things that i feel have a better than good chance of being amazing. oh and i DID like rage.

Duke Nukem Forever. I had such high hopes for the return of Duke. I expected a return to the fast paced gamestyle, the loveably crude main character, and the brilliant level design. I recieved a boring, slow, cover based wreck that stars Duke when he actually has gum.
I still remain hopeful that Gearbox will steer the series in the right direction, but I was still very dissapointed.

I'd also mention Dragon Age 2 because, even though I didn't play it, it's smeared the track record of a developer who I used to consider to be in the same league as Bethesda or even Valve.

Honestly? Skyrim.

There was little to no narrative depth in the game, and it felt more like map explorer with the occasional dragon and sword fight. While there were times you actually felt like a hero, the rest of the time you just felt like you were experiencing the game inside a tube of calculated interaction.. while all the NPC's and open cities they inhabited were just there to accommodate your occasional visit for sake of picking up quests and continuing them.

Either way, that's just my opinion. Take it as you will. /raises flame shield

The lesser disappointment, though I still enjoyed it for what it was worth:

Dragon Age 2, obviously.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

It's just boring. I don't know what else to say. It's so huge, with nothing to explore and feels incredibly unrewarding to continue.

Blech, I've already had too much to drink, I can;t think of any games made in 2011! However, L.A Noire is one that has stood out for me, amd it was terroble, just terrible. Everything, from the driving, to the characters to their much trumperted face technology thing was a failure. I can't say about Skyrim, but in six or seven hours I can get to work on it. Goodnight everyone!

Despite the excellence, there were more than a few games that disappointed me.

Homefront looked like it could break into the FPS market with a refreshingly different story, and a unique amalgam of Call of Duty and Battlefield multiplayer, but it ended up being a very muddled and extremely brief campaign and the multiplayer was terrible.

Duke Nukem 3D, nuff said about that at this point.

Dragon Age II could pass as a middle of the road RPG, but coming from Bioware I was very disappointed. The lack of environment changes, a story with little to no real direction, and some graphics that still need a boost are just a few reasons it upset me.

We had some awesome games this year, but we also had some really bad games too.

These are just the bad games I have played, which is why Duke Nukem is not on the list. You know what...

Honorable mention- Duke Nukem

1) Dragon Age 2- Loved the fleshed out companions and the new combat, I did not enjoy the same three dungeons, weak story, the character redesigns, and setting the game up in chapters format.

2) Brink- Innovative and interesting, but the friendly AI gets dumber while the enemy AI gets smarter, the multiplayer is the single player champagne with more people, and it had a weak story.

3) Deus Ex: human Revolution- It was spot on with the ethical quandaries, the question of morality of augmentation, and the social upset that would occur due to trans humanism. I think it was too short, the voice acting was poor, and the story boiled down to literally push one of these four buttons to end the game.

4) Battlefield 3- Really everything in the campaign was done in the COD series already. See the zero punctuation review to understand. The multiplayer is way slow and once snipers lock down your spawn you might as well leave the server. Also, why the lag when I want to move my soldier? I will move the stick and half a second later the soldier responds.

5) COD: Modern Warfare 3- Single player held its own, I wish spec ops allowed more than two people, but the multiplayer... Balance, this game has none.

6) Rage- This game had sooo much potential. The physics and AI were amazing. Shoot a standing enemy in the knee and they would fall over. Shoot a running enemy in the knee and they would fall and slide in the direction they were moving. They would dodge duck dip dive and dodge. However, the story was slow and short. The multiplayer consisted of a two player spec ops like set of missions, and a set of racing modes. Really ID? No TDM or anything?

My biggest dissapointment of 2011 was Uncharted 3. Don't get me wrong, it's still a solid game and better than a lot of blockbuster releases, but it just wasn't good enough to compete with Uncharted 2 or even the first Uncharted. It was short and frustrating with a fairly uninteresting story; it just didn't live up to the 9s and 10s it was getting or any of the hype leading up to its release.
