I love Rainbow Road with all my squishy bits, but Blood Gulch is the hypest. I remember it as both a fun time with my buddies and the place where Red vs. Blue all began.
The thing is (and this is, of course, my subjective opinion here) that de_dust is absolute crap from a balance perspective. A semi-competent CT team loaded with AWPs and M4s can absolutely lock down both routes, and it was only worse when the AWP was a guaranteed kill with a hit anywhere on the body. Dust2 was much better in my opinion, and after all these years I still don't understand why the original was ever popular.Caliostro said:de_dust, bar none.
Even if you hate counter-strike, if you know the first thing about FPSs you know that map.
When it comes to sheer iconic power Counter-Strike holds a special place in FPSs, and de_dust has not only existed in every damn iteration of the thing since 1999, but been the single most popular map in it as well. Turn any version of the game on right now and if there are any servers running I guarantee you'll play de_dust.
I'm pretty sure if you could tally up the online hours spent in every map in every multiplayer game, de_dust would stand head and shoulders above the rest.
Umm... really? Considering the number of references I see to Rainbow Road in and out of gaming media, on this site, other gaming sites, non-gaming sites, tv-shows... considering that I could throw in a reference to it as easily as any other pop-culture reference and assume a working knowledge on the part of the listener... I think your statement doesn't hurt the stage's credibility as being iconic nearly as much as it hurts your credibility as being a gamer.CannibalCorpses said:Gotta laugh...rainbow road? Doesn't ring any bells with me.
I hated that map. Absolutely hated it. It always turned into "rail gun nightmare" no matter how well I did, I still felt horrible afterwards.DragonZA said:Q3DM17 'The Longest Yard'
Maybe I'm just old though.
