I love Rainbow Road with all my squishy bits, but Blood Gulch is the hypest. I remember it as both a fun time with my buddies and the place where Red vs. Blue all began.

what about brecourt??
other than that, I'd say blood gulch qualifies, seeing how it's been in at least 3 games (yes, valhalla counts)

You mean Rainbow Road in Super Mario Kart? Yeah, that was a pain. I don't see why it's iconic though but then I have no idea how to judge that. Hell, I've never seen this topic brought up before.

This is a really hard question. The best I can do for you is mention all the maps that stuck out the most to me.

Personally, the map I always remember first from the Mario Kart series is the 64's Wario Stadium. It was amazing seeing it the first time on the commercials and teasers with it's size and design. It isn't difficult to trek through, changes a lot and there are some ways to get through it quicker or screw other players over (remember the jump?). It was also excellent for learning how to skid properly.

Another that really stood out for me in a lot of ways is Pokémon Stadium from SSB Melee. Back when it was really popular it was a favourite for many and one of the few changing levels that was allowed in the pro tournaments. It started of with basic platforms and then changed into interesting scenery with interesting layouts for platforms that never felt like it got in the way. Also, I reckon it had the perfect range when you got smashed out for the ring and people also loved for the score board and music.

I reckon the map Aztec in Counter Strike was the most memorable out of the lot, well I found to be the most interesting. With more ways around, couple of blockades, doors, under pass with water and all of it felt very spacious. It looks more interesting than de_dust too and it was probably the map I got stuck playing the most since I never had a choice.

You cannot count out Sonic Adventure 2's City Escape, it won a bloody award. It's got a great start with you on a board knocking vehicles out of the way, and changes a lot in exciting ways, and has a great song to go with it too. It's great actually, definitely one of the Sonic levels you have to check out, though the multiplayer isn't perfect but whatever.

Wait, de_dust? Isn't dust 2 the popular one? At least it is in my area. I can't remember playing a round on the original dust in ages.

de_dust, bar none.

Even if you hate counter-strike, if you know the first thing about FPSs you know that map.

When it comes to sheer iconic power Counter-Strike holds a special place in FPSs, and de_dust has not only existed in every damn iteration of the thing since 1999, but been the single most popular map in it as well. Turn any version of the game on right now and if there are any servers running I guarantee you'll play de_dust.

I'm pretty sure if you could tally up the online hours spent in every map in every multiplayer game, de_dust would stand head and shoulders above the rest.
The thing is (and this is, of course, my subjective opinion here) that de_dust is absolute crap from a balance perspective. A semi-competent CT team loaded with AWPs and M4s can absolutely lock down both routes, and it was only worse when the AWP was a guaranteed kill with a hit anywhere on the body. Dust2 was much better in my opinion, and after all these years I still don't understand why the original was ever popular.

de_dust2. I know every single callout and crack in that map, de_dust has nothing on de_dust2. de_dust is actually not that good of a map in my opinion, in 2 they got it right.

Rainbow Road.

People are confusing iconic games with iconic stages.

Go and Chess are two famous games. However, the chessboard is iconic, while Go's grid is significantly less so. Why?

I see the popularity of de_dust, but I'D never heard of it until today. I didn't play Counter-Strike back in the day, and don't know the map names. And frankly, dust isn't a very good/catchy name. I played TF2 a lot, and I don't think I'd single out "fort" as being particularly "iconic," though I'm sure I've had a lot of fun there.

And there has been a Rainbow Road in every single MarioKart, and they are all different. If you only play shooters for a few years, and during those years Counter-Strike wasn't the big one, you won't know a Counter-Strike map firsthand. But a current-generation game has had a map named "Rainbow Road" ever since the SNES days.

If this poll was to allow for users to enter multiple choices, I bet Rainbow Road would win.

Gotta laugh...rainbow road? Doesn't ring any bells with me.
Umm... really? Considering the number of references I see to Rainbow Road in and out of gaming media, on this site, other gaming sites, non-gaming sites, tv-shows... considering that I could throw in a reference to it as easily as any other pop-culture reference and assume a working knowledge on the part of the listener... I think your statement doesn't hurt the stage's credibility as being iconic nearly as much as it hurts your credibility as being a gamer.

Maybe I'm just old though.
I hated that map. Absolutely hated it. It always turned into "rail gun nightmare" no matter how well I did, I still felt horrible afterwards.

Voted for Blood Gulch because it is a pretty great map in its own right, and of course it has the Red vs. Blue significance.

Rainbow Road will always have a place in my heart of course.

Final Destination in Smash is "iconic" since the tournaments junkies loves it too much. It's a fine map, but I never liked "only playing" that map with no items and Fox only. Smash should have a chaotic element to it.

Anyway, I'd go for Rainbow Road, but I have way too many good gaming memories of Facility.

Canyon Oasis for Jedi Knight. Unique in structure, and super duper popular in the day. That was the game I sunk the most time into in that era, and that map was all I played - Assuming, of course, you only counted official maps.

Out of the ones in the poll most definitely de_dust and/or de_dust2

I cannot even remember how many thousands of hours I have played that map at internet cafees back in the day.
