FPS games?

But seriously, I'd have to say HUDs. They're always in the way and sometimes only provide you with semi-important info that doesn't need to be in your face the whole time. I like what Dead Space does, implementing the HUD into the game. That, I approve of.

Pandering. Tired of that. The driving desire to make a buck ruins so many things.

Saving something. As in "rescuing". How many games out there AREN'T about saving a princess, or saving your girlfriend, or saving the world from Nazis or evil aliens, or saving yourself?

Games being put into the stealth category, when it is easily played like any other shooter but with a lot of shadows to shoot from, i'm looking at you specifically splinter cell conviction >:/

Medieval fantasy set in England or some place meant to be recognized as England.

There's something wrong when fantasy becomes weighed down by tired cliches.

Perhaps not the most overused concept ever, but one I'm wearing thin of is vampires. Every goddamned time somebody writing anything wants to make a character "dark" and "mysterious" and "aloof" and "supernatural" and "hawt" and don't have fucking night elves in their setting, they go to vampires.

Every.

Goddamned.

Time.

Now, maybe it is because I play Magic, or because got my hands on my dad's old AD&D books at a relatively young age, or or because I got my ass into a library at a younger age still, but I know for a fact that there are well over a dozen different types of undead, ranging in a whole spectrum of exciting flavors. Liches, for example, are a good example of intelligent undead that could serve as a main villain, and I cite Order Of The Stick for precedence.

Why yes I am complaining about stuff I don't like, that is why I'm complaining about them.

So we got this guy, right? And we're going to give him awesome and destructive super powers that just beg to be used irresponsibly, ok. Now let's make a system where he can choose to be good or evil, and have the evil guy not get any good powers, and have being good make it so that you can't destroy anything in free roam or you'll lose a rating on your karma bar or something. BULLSHIT! Of course, the only system in this style I have actually played with was in RDR. I don't have a ps3, so I can't play infamous. But one of the reasons I cause so much chaos in games is because I know it won't have repercussions beyond being teleported to the nearest hospital or police station.

I really can't remember any recent games that involved time travel to be honest. I'd have to pick war for this one, followed by zombie invasions.

EDIT: Oh, and saving the princess/girlfriend/wife/love interest. So many games do that.

War as the first obvious choice. But if you're making a game, why not make a game where the stakes are high? Games revolving around life and death seem only logical to me.

Second would be zombies. They've been the 'thing' since L4D. Before that it was the second World War.

How about the mother of all cliche concepts: that you save the day/ the kingdom/ the country/ the world/ the universe/ ALL CREATION. How about credibly failing for a change...that would be some nice drama.

This. its the cheapest way a dev can avoid giving the main character proper backstories and specifically with the elder scrolls series, starting off as a prisoner and u dont know why u are there.
