How did you forget Edward from FFIV? When Hope is a better character to use in a fight, you know you suck.

Such a limited list... Where are Thief (FF1), Edward (FF4), and Relm (FF6)? Actually, Edward becomes quite powerful if you level him up past his intended exit (most likely by re-acquiring him in the GBA remake), but come on... a character whose best ability is to run and hide?

Out of these, I had to say Cait Sith. I haven't played XIII, but as I understand it, the characters aren't useless if you give them something good to do (just like in V, VII, X, and XII) I found Quina to be quite handy with his/her/its ability to randomly OHKO any enemy, excluding most bosses, and I always loved a blue mage. Rikku starts off as the team's "Thief", but loses all of her usefulness/distinctiveness as the game progresses and you teach more popular characters her abilities. Cait Sith, on the other hand, starts off effectively generic (as all FFVII characters do) and develops uniqueness as you unlock its luck-based Limit Breaks (which messes with all strategies).

Ohh they're all so equally useless.... I'll have to vote Quina simply because I'm a bigger FFIX fan and Cait Sith was SOMEWHAT redeemed as usable in Dirge of Cerberus. Penelo was also my only person on bow, so she came in handy for flyers. Rikku had her uses too, few as they were.

Pretty much all of the characters after the opening of FFX are useless. But I have a particular hatred for Cait Sith, stupid double-crossing cat-thing.

Tifa. Even though you can give her all the materia you want she always reeks of futility.
I have the game on PSN (first playthrough, on second disk) and shes my best character, idk how but she always deals the most damage

Haha Rikku, Quina and Penelo useless? What are you smoking? I don't even have to explain why anymore since so many fellow Escapists told you why you're wrong already.

Anyways Cait Sith was the most useless due to the fact that his limit break was a slot machine.

Tough call. I dislike all of them equally, however i have definitely used Cait Sith the least.

Quina had some okay weapons and blue magic, I don't even know who #3 is, and i thought rikku had some weird mechanical something that was useful, but i don't remember for sure.

Who the heck voted for Rikku? If you want to do a no-sphere-grid run (quite hard, understatement) she's the key player. Plus, she's good on her own!

Never played 12, wouldn't know.

Quina is who I almost picked simply because she's not nearly as cool as the other FF9 characters.

But yeah. Cait Sith is number 1. His/her (what's its gender???) limit breaks suck, and the roulette one actually has a chance to KILL YOU. SUCK!

Caith sith. Just Caith sith (probably because he's the only one I know 'cept Rikku, who wasn't totally useless)

Cait Sith because Quina was one of my most powerful characters (that Frog spell does 9999 I think, for a meager MP cost if you catch enough frogs) and Penelo was my most powerful caster (and most FFXII characters are pretty much equal in stats).

Both Cait Sith and Quina can easily become 2 of the most powerful characters in their respective games, Rikku irritates me to no end but I'd have to go with Penelope for the worst. But seriously Train with Cait Sith and Quina for a bit and just see how mentally god like they can both become.

The Spoony Bard of course, then Kimari. Technically for FFX you can make any character just as strong, but the problem with Kamari was that he started out good as a strong attacker, but his sphere grid 'path' ended very early, leading him to branch out to level 1 at the start of... I think it was Lulu, Yuna, or Rikku? About the same time you get Auron too, who instantly became a better pierce attacker and Kimari the lone useless character.

As for Rikku in my play through she became my #2 by the end. Since she had the highest speed, when I got the upgrade to add 'death' to a weapon I gave it to her, and it worked on most of the common enemies including the ones in that final bonus dungeon leading to some ridiculously fast leveling. That and the albhed potions + alchemy skill provided all the healing you ever need in the game.

Khimari is not much use on the basic sphere grid, but on the expert he's invaluable. Take him through Yuna's section and he becomes a much better white mage than she is. Being able to dish out and take a fair bit of punishment as well as see to heal duties. Auron, Rikku, Khimari with occasional bouts of Wakka and Lulu and you never need worry about Mr & Mrs Whine ever appearing in your fights.
