Pepsi co pulled this ad down for being racist and sexist. I can see why with the goat threatening the woman with violence if she snitches and with everyone else in the line up being black.

So what do you think?

Im sick to death of these arguments, i did not see the ads as sexist, i saw it as stupid as shit, and i did not realize goats where a race. For fucks sake people, there are bigger things to worry about in the world then retarded looking goats.

Uh, she fails to identify a goat in a line up of black people. It's not racist against goats, it's racist against blacks.

Since when? Besides, you don't think that a woman getting beaten up by an animal being played for laughs to has elements of hate?

Not sure who the bigger idiot is here: Tyler the Creator or the Pepsi suits that green-lit the advert. I would say it's on par with the Dr. Pepper 10 'it's just for Men' commercials though in terms of sexism but the "Just for Men" ads didn't have a continuity about a traumatized woman who was just violently beaten. As for the racism...it was pretty thick. The line-up didn't need to be a Burger King Kid's Club of diversity but it needed some diversity: it showed white cops (seemed like all of the people in authority were anyway), white victim and an all-black line up after all. Hell, making the goat a white-stereotype would have been...helpful. Yeah, it still would have been in a line-up with stereotypical 'thugs' but if it was an Irish Goat or, a Southern/Redneck goat it would have added in some sorely needed diversity. The Goat would have still been a flat, racist caricature but it would have been something.

It was an attempt to reach the urban market (depending on whether or not such a distinction is racist itself, since "urban" apparently means black now). The man who wrote the ad was black. I find the idea of token characters being inserted for the sake of diversity more unsettling than an ad made by a black man intended to capture a black audience.

The police create a lineup of people who look like an animal, and only black people suit that criterium? Yes. Yes, that's very racist.
And also unfunny. As in, even if you're fine with racist jokes you're not going to laugh at it. At least I didn't.

Wait, so people are really taking this as "the goat looks like a black dude" and not "the woman is afraid of getting beaten up by the goat again"? Because that's what the video seemed like to me.
Fucking stupid video, mind.

They've quite clearly given the ok to the ad so that it would generate all this controversy & discussion, and get people voluntarily watching it. No-one in their right mind would approve something like that if they didn't want to get it banned, and I refuse to believe any corporation is able to give complete creative autonomy to their advertisers.

Anyway, I thought it was pretty surreal & not too bad..

It's sexist because it shows a woman who's been the victim of violent behaviour.
It's racist because the line-up is made up by black people.

Replace the waitress with a white male and the line-up with white males and people would only complain about how bad the ad is. Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and say it's neither.

I can understand the claims of racism[footnote]Though it really isn't truly racist in my opinion.[/footnote], but how the hell is this supposed to be sexist? Honestly, people will call anything involving a woman sexist.

I suppose you could argue that there are undertones of sexism and racism in the video, but even with that aside, the fact of the matter is, the commercial itself is just stupid and poorly executed.
It's trying to play the violent goat for laughs, but the "humour" just fall flat in my opinion.

It's definately not sexist in my opinion . I can definately see why some would call it racist though . But it was soo exagerrated that i couldn't take it seriously enough to be offended .

I didn't know that anyone was claiming they were.

Actually, racism doesn't require anything of the sort. There's unintentional racism in a lot of places.

Keep in mind that all of the people in the suspect line (or whatever it's called) were BLACK MEN (and the goat, which somewhat implies that the men as morally bankrupt as the goat). That makes the ad both racist and sexist, regardless of who thought it up. A generalization is a generalization, even if whoever made it finds it accurate from the sample population of people he knows. I'm pretty sure that people who have committed assault are not all black men.

The problem with this is that these generalizing sentiments may be somewhat imprinted on the young target audience.

This, It's like it's so stupid I'm not sure I care.

It makes me wonder who, aside from the comedian, thought that was going to be a good commercial though...
