Poll: Murder !! What stops you?

Note - i don't mean random strangers, for this assume its someone you have a reason to really, really dislike.
Basically earlier me and some friends were having a discussion. we were talking about what stops people from murder. obviously this only applies to those whom haven't murdered anyone.

so i was saying the only thing stopping most people is the law/fear of being caught and imprisoned. there are certain people that i would like to off, but i can't because i would get arrested. i reckon that most people could kill someone if they had the reason too, if they could get away with it. although my friends think that may be i just have a lowly opinion of human nature, but i generally don't think i do. so im just asking to see what you think.
edit - before people get the wrong idea - i don't plan to kill anyone, even if i wouldn't get caught. its just, if it came down to it.
so what do you reckon:
A) what stops you personally from offing certain people
B) What do you think stops other people

Since it's the internet, there's bound to be at least one Escapist who has murdered someone. I'm being deadly serious there, somebody here probably has actually killed a person or people. As for me, it's mainly my morals and conscience, plus the law.

I would prefer not to end the life of another person, but if I ever got to that extent, I could care less about the consequences.

Just the thought that should you kill someone, you will be ending them, all their thoughts, their dreams and hopes, everything they rember and have done, an entire life washed away in minutes, scary.
That's why I don't think I'll ever kill someone, though I can't say for sure that I never will, my time machine has been on the fritz lately.

well conscience is personal beliefs, whereas society's values is where you dont want to be outcast because people look down on you.
