I try not to stroke my ego too much but I can't help but to do so this time.

Voice, Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, Sax, Violin, Fiddle, Piccolo, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Organ, French Horn, Cello, Mallet percussion, Melodica, Turntables, Ukulele, Harp, Ocarina, Pan flute, Recorder, Bagpipes, Accordion, Harmonica, Banjo, Mandolin, Keytar

I'm passable on most of them, really good on a few of them, and an amazing singer. Also most of these overlap so once you learn theory and how an instrument works you can learn to play it really easily. So my message to OP and all other aspiring musicians LEARN YOUR MUSIC THEORY not just some simple tabs on a guitar.

I've played the Alto Sax for...9 years now. Wow, didn't know it'd been that long already.

EDIT: And I STILL suck, lol.

I don't one, waste of money in my opinion. If they were cheaper, I might, but I don't want to spend my parent's money on something that costs 2000 dollars that I might use for 3 years than throw it in the basement.
Do what I did: research cost/quality, lurk on ebay, and spend <$200. Enough quality that the instrument doesn't piss you off is important, but breaking the bank on the first move is dumb.

I'd like to learn to play the organ.

No real reason, just for giggles mostly. It's something I'd probably only do if I ever become an idle rich person who can expend the time and money on the instrument and lessons.

I don't, but really want to learn piano, mainly so when I'm old, rich and retired I can have one and sit down to randomly play.

I love the piano... but I need lessons. And I can't really afford them living out on my own and all...

I play the drums. I have to admit it's most likely the awesomest instrument I have ever tried out. Sadly my parents hated musical talent for the first 18 years of my life so I first started learning in secret.

But seriously. I like the drums because they allow also for some rage to be cooled off hitting the various drums and cymbals.

Tell me, have you actually practiced with all the instruments on this list? Or just said, "hey, I can play the trumpet, sure it'd be easy enough to play any other brass as long as I know what key its in."

Cause if you do, that's fucking ace.

I have a couple guitars and play around with them at least an hour a day.

Slide blues, anyone? This guy right here.

I've only ever played the guitar, but it's the same there. Only now do I understand why, during live solos, some guitarists throw their head back or stomp or whatever.

Yes and no. I personally have a really good memory for music, so I don't need sheet or tabs to remember what to play after I've played it once or twice, but tabs can be great for learning this riff or that (I learned my favorite riff ever, the intro from "Heaven and Hell", from a tab).

That said, you're also half-right - you can't build anything if you don't start with the foundation. Start with simple chords, and experiment from there. As pretentious as it sounds, music doesn't come from paper.
