I actually just bought a Xbox 360 last weekend while they were handing out rebates on it. This is my second "current gen" console and my fourth overall. I have been a Nintendo fan boy for many years and, after much convincing by my friends, made the switch. I absolutely love it. I currently have Halo 3 and Project Gotham Racing 4, which, I must admit, are some of the hardest games I've played. They make Metroid Prime and Mario Kart look like a game for five year olds. Anyways, now that I own this new system, I was wondering, what games would you recommend for a new-comer to the platform, and, more importantly, why?
I look forward to hearing your opinion.

If you don't have a PC for gaming, then definitely the Orange Box. Also, be on the lookout for Modern Warfare 2. And it may have dropped in price by a huge amount, so Battlefield: Bad Company.

This hurts me so much.

As for some games,Go for Gears of War 2 and Halo 3 ODST.
I think they are great games and all, but they are easy compared to Halo 3 and PGR4. Like my first online match in Halo three, I made one kill, then got owned 25-1. And don't get me started on how hard it is to make a turn with PGR4. I've lost count of how many times I've hit the wall. Then again, I've only play the system for like a hour.

For J-RPGes, if your interested, try Last Remnant, I found it engrossing and fun, evemn if the voice acting is a little off.

FPSes, anything really that has Call of Duty in the title. They are good games and really entertaining to boot.

Friendly games (As I call them) like the LEGO games and Viva Pinata are good as you can just relax and play through without having to worry about anything.

Hope that helps.

How can anyone compare Mariokart and Metroid Prime with Halo and PGR4?

Honestly, Halo PC is the game I enjoyed most, but the Xbox has Prototype (also for PC, but my computer is about 3 years old, meaning lag), Haywo ODST, and my Xbox-only friends, who I cannot see me without now.

And Castle Crashers. That game was unbelievably fun to co-op with.

I don't know. One was my first FPS game, and the other my first racing game? I guess I'm too used to lock on and arcade style play.

YES. No truer words have been spoken.

I'd recommend Burnout Paradise, Battlefield Bad Company, and possibly UT3.

I don't know if you game on your PC at all. If so, some of these may be irrelevant. If not, you should definitely pick them up.

Mass Effect: By far the best effort I've played this console generation. It's the closest to a cinematic experience that games have managed so far, with fully voiced dialogue (and done better than Oblivion or Fallout 3's attempts). The action is third-person shooter style, but the best part about this game is it's writing. The story is interesting and well-thought out, the characters all unique and developed. Must have this gen.

Assassin's Creed: The game has its faults (mostly in that it can get repetitive at times), but it didn't stop me from having fun. The parkour roof-running and impressively pretty graphics make this one of the most stylish games of its time. And with the sequel coming out soon (looking to correct the gaffs made in this game), it's a good time to pick up the title.

Splinter Cell: Double Agent: So this one's fairly old, but a great game nonetheless. Few are the games that do stealth anymore, and even fewer the ones that do it well. This game has a lot in replayability, as it can take several run-throughs before you figure out the best way to complete a mission. And while stealth is highly rewarded, you can still get yourself out of trouble if you mess something up. Which is nice.

Fallout 3: I've made a lot of noise about how disappointed I've been in this game. And that's true, but mostly because I'm a Fallout fangirl with impossibly perfect memories of the first two titles. Upon further reflection, I've warmed up to this game a bit. The graphics are pretty, and the first time you see the ruins of Washington is definitely a striking moment. And the story's good, if not as long as it could be (and with a very unsatisfying ending). Plenty of DLC for it, too.

And keep your eyes out for Dragon Age: Origins, which hits shelves in a few weeks and is looking to be real shiny.

I got an Xbox 360 once... had it for 3 months then sold it. If you have a gaming PC, it is useless. The only game I ever played on it was Gears of War 2. But since you apparently don't have a good PC, then a 360 is a decent choice. As for games, I recommend that you get Gears of War 2, Mass Effect, Fallout 3 and Call of Duty 4.
